"New Artist Intro"

Got the opportunity to listen to their album, Afterglow, and found it to be a blast from the past, yet relevant enough for us to embrace immediately. Their sounds are a melodious jingle jangle that take many cues from early rock n’ roll and doo-wop. - Rock Cousteau

"Afterglow Album Review"

I picked up a copy of Afterglow and will break it down for you because it is definitely worth raiding the bank for $10 to purchase this delightful ear sex of indie rock. Afterglow, produced and mixed by Kris Sampson, begins with a stoner-like track Wipeout, an intense start to an album but it hooks you in to yearn for more. Daysleeper lets you catch your breath and your heart slow down. The sexy sounding tune seduces your body into a dreamy sway. No Time Like Now is beautifully haunting with simple but perfectly crafted lyrics that pull at the heartstrings to evoke a mixture of emotions. I can’t wait for the next installment from this band because this is a great debut album. Influenced by bands from the 60s and 70s, and the indie influence from today, Young Orchids have the mix just right and have nailed the indie rock scene. The artwork by Patrick Davis ties this CD up beautifully into a perfect package — head for the shops now! - Stereo of the Insane

"Live Review: Young Orchids at Star Bar"

Homegrown Young Orchids made a nice contrast to the quiet introspective space created. Theirs is a sound of raucous pop/punk, complimented by high-energy stage presence and killer dance moves. It’s not hard to see why they are such rising stars on the local scene right now. - Atlanta Music Guide

"Best of the City 2010"

“Best of the City 2010”
The live show is where they really shine. The lanky Gordon shimmies ‘n’ swaggers his way through sets of spacey, down-tempo garage tunes. It’s part dance-y, part swoon-y, and Gordon’s edgy vocals make you feel as if you’re watching a live recording session circa 1964. - The Atlantan Magazine

"Record Review: Young Orchids"

What stands out most about Young Orchids’ debut release is that it doesn’t sound like a first album. The production is polished, the harmonies are exquisite, each track seems complete, and the album flows perfectly along, as if each song was especially written to follow the next. The way the band combines musical stylings is also impressive. The beauty is in how these sounds are merged within each track to create a fully cohesive and vivid album. - Performer Magazine

"LittleFiveFest Bio"

Kyle Gordon fronts this highly energetic live four-piece whose fanbase, particularly that of rowdy ladies, rapidly grows with each show. On their recordings, their style, though always polished, shifts from song to song with high end studio production and slick Brit-rock guitar lines. Young Orchids are speedily building their name around the south and, chances are, they won’t be slowing down any time soon. - LittleFiveFest.com

"Live Gig Review"

With the first guitar chord, bang on the drums and energizing vocal note, they captured the room. Everyone captivated! This crazy energetic band cannot be ignored because music takes over every inch of their being; they play instruments flawlessly, and belt out catchy indie pop rock music. The set from start to finish was fun entertainment—people danced up the back 60s-style. Everyone stared, and whether they meant to or not, bobbed their heads, tapped their feet—moving in some way, as if under a seductive spell from the magic in their ears. Their flawless collaboration ensures every song on the set list sounds perfect. If you want to feel good, have a mixture of 60s and present day music, learn some new dance moves, and see a kick ass band, go see Young Orchids play. It really is a show that won’t disappoint. - Stereo of the Insane

"Young Orchids at the Drunken Unicorn"

Young Orchids are a fervent and undisguised force in Atlanta, quickly gaining momentum. What could easily be the next fringe movement taking Atlanta by surprise, Young Orchids, in just a short amount of time, have managed to pull together an amazing lineup for an amazing delivery of powerful and subtly aggressive pop concepts. Their shows are filled with scores of happy concert goers; eagerly awaiting each and every song, dancing and cheering and singing along. The atmosphere of their shows is one of involvement and contentment; and each melody pleases the crowd more than the next - BeAtlanta

"CD Review: Young Orchids - Afterglow"

Don’t let the fuzzy guitars and tambourines on opening track “Wipeout” be mistaken for some sun-bleached record. The album opens its doors making it known that this is intelligent rock. This is shoegazer at its finest. The sexiest song on the album, “Twelve Feet Tall,” is a swaggering Gallagher brother Brit rock trip, validating Young Orchids as a true rock band. - Ticket Alternative Live

"Fresh Wax: Young Orchids"

Damn if these aren’t eleven of the catchiest blasts of anthemic indie rock and pop I’ve heard this year. Swaying and sun-baked, “Wipeout” is a wise choice for an opener. Full of fuzzy guitars and led by singer Kyle Gordon’s warm, watery croon, the song perfectly establishes the album’s alternately exhilarating and laid back mood. Afterglow is an admirably diverse sounding record that manages to embrace elements of punk, pop, doo-wop and blazing four-on-the-floor rock with equal affinity. If you’re looking for highlights, check out “Hey Marshall,” a sneering punk corker driven by sharp guitars and plenty of swagger or else the hypnotic “Twelve Feet Tall,” which uses a pulsing organ and mesmerizing monotone vocals to set up a booming chorus. - Latest Disgrace

"Young & Restless"

Young Orchids have quietly created a devoted following from their captivating live show performances. Their underground rise has given Young Orchids an almost cult appeal, and their unassuming demeanor makes their stage show and sound all the more alluring. Young Orchid’s sound is a blend of British rock and classic pop strained through a skewed filter to produce a hypnotic batch of songs that you can’t turn away from or ignore. This band does not just play their songs, but they illustrate the way in which they should be consumed from their vigorous onstage performances. They are fervent, rowdy, and utterly rock ‘n roll. - Mixtape Atlanta

"Young Orchid Finally Bask in the Afterglow"

Almost every part of Afterglow sounds effortless, uncomplicated even: the sun-kissed guitar riffs, the three-part harmonies as suggested by producer Kris Sampson and the lyrics, yearning for little else but to be there for someone else. - PurgeATL

Bio

A gorgeous, messy cluster of melody and jangle, Young Orchids' songs are instantly accessible, yet somehow left-of-center. Drawing inspiration from the timeless sounds of early rock n' roll and doo-wop, combined with the expansiveness of shoegaze, and the rawness and swagger of early 70's protopunk, Young Orchids have created a unique flavor that transcends direct comparison. The band has earned its reputation as a ferociously energetic live act in their Atlanta hometown and neighboring cities, effortlessly weaving raucous, boisterous pop songs together with lush, haunting soundscapes.

Young Orchids have shared the stage with Mayer Hawthorne, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Constellations, Miniature Tigers, Gringo Star, J Roddy Walston & The Business, Ponderosa, and The Bridges. They have appeared on Comcast Bands On Demand as well as the IndieATL live music series.
