I saw youngsmith's singer dan play a solo spot at a singer-songwriter showcase late last year and this song is a beautiful song. it's the kind of song you could just listen to with somebody you're in love with, for me it's perfect for that. thanks to the youngsmith guys for this beautiful song.

Bio

How do you describe the music of up and coming Aussie band Youngsmith?

They’ve been compared Indie greats Powderfinger and Coldplay; to rock bands, such as Midnight Oil, and alternative bands, such as Motor Ace — even folk legend Jack Johnson (to name a few).

However, while Youngsmith’s fusion of Indie, alternative rock, and folk certainly results in a perfect blend of the best of all three; the band also manages to generate a captivating sound that is all their own.

Singer/songwriter Dan Smith started Youngsmith after returning from travels abroad, where the plight of people in the third world countries he visited inspired him to work on an acoustic album.

Two years on, Smith continues to draw on the raw emotions of life and channel these into songs that are both engaging and enjoyable. His lyrics are thought-provoking and memorable, covering themes as diverse as love, self-discovery, freedom, war, and justice.

Accomplished musicians Chris Leggat and Adam Warmsley (recruited in early 2010) provide a solid rhythm section that carries Smith’s lyrics straight to the heart. Their combined skill and experience (as well as differing perspectives on life) create a synergy that makes their music poignant, relevant, and alluring.

The band members draw their inspiration from the metal, blues, rock, and folk genres producing a rich tapestry of ringing melodies. (Even before you know the words, you’ll be humming along to songs like Long Lost Loner.)

The sounds of the violin, cello, and viola intensify the haunting lyrics of the dark, but powerful War and Peace, which echoes Dan’s reaction to the suffering and injustices he witnessed as he travelled through the favelas (slums) of Brazil, and shantytowns of Southeast Asia.

Their latest track Why Deny is a beautifully simple folk tune ala Jack Johnson.
Youngsmith have entertained and enthralled audiences at major venues throughout Brisbane. Their singles War and Peace and Long Lost Loner were recorded in 2010 at Brisbane’s famed Wavelength Studios where the likes of Powderfinger and Kate Miller Heidke have also recorded albums.

2010 saw them play many of the venues across Queensland including The Zoo, Ric's Bar, X & Y Bar, Surfer's Paradise Beer Garden and The Hard Rock Cafe among many others.

The band is currently working on their debut album to be released later this year. While in production on the debut album Smith and his band will be playing several dates across Queensland. Look out for them in the coming months. Check the widget to the right for dates and details.
