Bio
Hailing from the historic neighborhood of Fell’s Point in Baltimore, Maryland, Youngster is the newest addition to Baltimore’s emerging Indie-Electronic music scene. The quartet fuses pulsating, high energy electronica with jam band grooviness, but keeps their pop sensibilities with catchy hooks and vocal samples. Their colorful, dance-friendly preformances have graced the halls of some of Baltimore’s favorite venues, such as the 8x10 Club, Sidebar, and the Senator Theater.
Formed in 2010, Youngster is comprised of James Martin (guitar, vocals), Alex Flamm (bass, synths), Zach Drehoff (samples, vocals), and Elliot Oren (synths, vocals). The four grew up together in Catonsville, Maryland, attended high school together, and have played together in various bands over the years.
Youngster’s first release, the EP Pistachio (2011) features some of their best work to date and highlights their diverse musical influences. Elements from the burgeoning jam-dance scene are evident throughout their work, bringing to mind bands such as The New Deal, Sound Tribe Sector 9 and Lotus, all while paying homage to the straight ahead, guitar driven rock they were raised on.
