 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA
BandRockAlternative

Young Tongues' music is snappy and driving alternative rock, built on emotive vocals, mechanical guitars, and spacious arrangements.

Biography

Young Tongues started in 2010 in Oklahoma City after a meeting between mutual friends for lunch at the Vietnamese restaurant Pho Cuong. “I had only come to OKC to visit some friends,” vocalist/guitarist Will Thornton said, “But I was hungry to start a new band, and it’s not easy to find people who are on the exact same wavelength as you. Jay was ready to build a new sound together!”

Thornton's previous band, Forever and Never, experienced success in the South Central region of the U.S. “I grew out of the music we were playing in my old band, but I learned a lot from my experiences with touring, recording, and dealing with our record label and the business side of playing in a band that I don’t regret it.”

Since relocating to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, from Tupelo, Mississippi, Thornton has spent many hours soaking in the rich local art and music scene. “I'm very thankful for all of my new friends in Oklahoma and the beautiful art that you've all shared with me,” said Thornton, “There’s a certain kind of creative energy here in Oklahoma that I’ve never experienced before.”

Young Tongues is for fans of French Kicks, Cold War Kids, and Built to Spill.
