"Demo2DeRo: Blackdog"

As you might expect from a band named for one of the most iconic songs on the most famous of all officially untitled fourth albums, the Chicago quartet Blackdog gives a whole lotta love and then some to Led Zeppelin, which ranks first and foremost on a list of classic-rock heroes that also includes Cream and Jim Hendrix. Yet while this can be a dire thing indeed in the hands of mere mortals or copycat wannabes in the Lenny Kravitz mode, thunder god drummer Andrew Elbert, bassist Jason Segal and guitarists and vocalists Antony Ablan and Sam Reicher have both the chops and the bluesy, boozy joie de vivre to pull off the sound and the stance in a most convincing way.

The band released a self-titled album last year, and it offers a hefty sampling of its heavy tunes on both its MySpace page, www.myspace.com/yourblackdog, and its own Web site, www.yourblackdog.com. The group also is gigging with road-warrior regularity; the next stops on the itinerary: The Abbey Pub, 3420 W. Elston, at 8 p.m. Friday, and Phyllis' Musical Inn, 1800 W. Division, at 8 p.m. on Aug. 28.

Bio

Blackdog was formed in the fall of 2005. Heavily influenced by the Delta blues of the 20’s and 30’s, the Chicago Blues of the 50’s, and the Rock n’ Roll heroes of the late 60’s, Blackdog's youthful energy delivers a strong mix of spirituality and sexuality while maintaining the highest level of professionalism. Their raw talent, elevated taste, and explosive stage presence have given them the reputation of “a mind-blowing adventure of joy and passion”. With captivating originals and re-buffed covers by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Chuck Berry, and many more- Blackdog’s ambitious repertoire is something few others can pull off so brilliantly. More than any band around, Blackdog caters to absolutely all ages- playing timeless music like it's never been played before. Live performance is of the utmost importance to this band, they premeditate every single show they play and never bring anything less than their A-game. There is a difference between emulation and actualization, Blackdog is real, original rock n' roll. They are the truth, and they guarantee satisfaction.
