Your Very Own...

Your Very Own...

BandAlternativeRock

Your Very Own... is a four piece indie rock group from Los Angeles. They blend influences from bands like Brand New and The Spill Canvas to create a signature sound with both unique, illustrative lyrics and innovative vocal melodies.

Biography

Your Very Own... is a term often used endearingly to end a letter, to encompass something personal. Lately, Your Very Own... has been referring to the new dynamic band in Los Angeles CA, but nevertheless, the definition stays true. Your Very Own... has gone through a few lineup changes but has finally found the right team. Donald Barjas, the lead singer/guitar player, moved to LA in August of 2007 from Cottonwood, Arizona to pursue a career in the music world. Donald started the project upon moving to Los Angeles to hone his skills as a singer/songwriter, and what started as a solo project has turned into a full band effort thanks to Brant Kortman, Billy Hathaway, and Christian Hogan. All four members are enrolled at the Musician's Institute for their respective crafts. The debut release, "Do I Have Your Attention? Good." is set to release on Purevolume as of June 28th 2009. "Do I Have Your Attention? Good" displays the diversity and color of Your Very Own... which is only a precursor to the upcoming full length album entitled "Gemini". Drawing influence from bands such as Brand New, Death Cab For Cutie, and The Spill Canvas, Your Very Own brings indie and mainstream music into an interesting new platform not unlike TV realism. Your Very Own... shows both personal and innovative lyrics along with creative melodies reminiscent of early Counting Crows. Performing with such acts as The Audition, Envy On The Coast, and Danger Radio, Your Very Own... is steadily gaining momentum in the underground scene.

Lyrics

Jubilee

Written By: Donald Barjas

She’s comatose but her heart’s still beating
So I’m convinced that she’s in love
Outside the hospital her brother’s waiting
The doctors say that she’s not strong enough to make it through the night

Oh Jubilee
I’m begging you if you have to leave just take me with you
Don’t leave me by myself
Oh Jubilee
Be strong for me just sleep for now, sleep for now

They found her car in a ravine just past the lake
So I’m convinced she’d had too much to drink
He hasn’t left her side in at least a couple days
“Just keep on keeping on” he says
“We’re not out of the woods just yet”

Oh Jubilee
I’m begging you if you have to leave just take me with you
Don’t leave me by myself
Oh Jubilee
Be strong for me just sleep for now, sleep for now

Because I believe that we can work out something
God it’s not her fault promise me that you won’t take her yet
I can’t let this happen

Oh Jubilee
I’m begging you if you have to leave just take me with you
Don’t leave me by myself
Oh Jubilee
Be strong for me just sleep for now, sleep for now

Goodnight Sleep Well

Written By: Donald Barjas

It’s getting cold, a bit too cold to be LA
So I suggest that we should stay inside
We’re counting patterns on the ceiling, laying side by side
And listening to the rain

You close your eyes and huddle close, I’ll keep you safe

Goodnight, sleep well

It’s getting late we’ve both got lives to lead tomorrow
So let’s make the best of what we have tonight
Your chest is rising and falling at the same pace as mine
This must be heaven if there is one

You pull me closer we’ve got to keep you warm

Goodnight, sleep well
Dream of somewhere you want to go
Please don’t make me your only hope

The sun is rising let’s just lay here for a while longer
You know I won’t tell if you don’t tell
You pull me closer we’ve got to keep you warm

Goodnight, sleep well
Dream of somewhere you want to go
Please don’t make me your only hope
Your only hope
