You Yourselves

BandRock

You Yourselves is a band with a diverse catalog of music with a lot of energy and passion. Our live show thrives off of the interaction between the band and the crowd, and hopes to create a fun atmosphere for all.

Biography

You Yourselves formed in the aftermath of a disbanded hard rock outfit; “Phoenix Aflame”.
With four of the original band members intact, the group’s songwriting was luckily never
forced to cease and finding the two new members was a much easier task than assumed.
During the transition period the band's style gradually changed, blending the individual
musical tastes of the members into a more unique and creative project. With the final
lineup being set in stone the group was made up of Brian Gillis (vocals), Jonathon
Gazendam (vocals, keys), Reid McCarter (bass), Chris Mcintosh (guitar), Matt McConnell
(drums), and Rob McDougall (guitar).

The band began writing songs and playing local shows as frequently as possible,
developing a reputation for their energetic and neurotic live show. They decided to put
out a demo as quickly as possible, and a few months later the “Make It Happen” demo was
complete, being sold at local record shops and at shows. The demo opened many doors for
them as they were able to play at various local venues, as well as leave their hometown
to play in many other cities around Ontario. Over the past year the band has shared the
stage with many great indie bands like Five Blank Pages, Two-Hours Traffic, Reily, The
Thurstons, Sleeper Set Sail, and The Johnstones.

The band has recently recorded their first EP, which will be available in early March
2007, and plan to support its release with extensive shows within the borders of Canada.

Lyrics

Architects

Written By: You Yourselves

I write it, so I'm right
An architect in flight
Who sees the plan, Builds a life
Finds the wrong end of a knife
Cause its the white noise that he fears
As his deadline drowns in tears

But we don't build, We just create
Ignore the signs, find out we're late
For our own future, our own lines
The highway route's rule, the break light shines!

I'm brought up, so I'm stuck
This clone house is our luck
That stays the same, plays it's role
Bred the kid who never stole
Cause he's a diamond in the rough
A tuned up robot learned to love

But we don't build, We just create
Ignore the signs, find out we're late
For our own future, our own lines
The highway route's rule, the break light shines!
