"Brooklyn trio Your Youth turns summer parties into tuneful blur on free mp3"

The press notes for Your Youth describe the Brooklyn band as “lo-fi gone hi-fi,” which is exactly right: the trio plays with the full-bore abandon of a ramshackle lo-fi act, but with the polish and precision of a radio-ready band.

It’s a tricky balance, and Your Youth does it exceedingly well on “Diamond,” the free song from the band’s forthcoming EP, “Aloha,” which is due Sept. 14 on Gigantic.

After starting with clean, chugging riff, the song barrels into a chorus that blends fast, bright cascading notes on guitar with a thick rhythm part so compressed it tumbles into warm overdrive. It’s all topped with sing-song vocals mixed right up front.

If you’re still looking for a summer anthem, “Diamond” could be your jam. - Listen, Dammit

"New Vid: Your Youth "Awake" (fan video)"

Your Youth are a fairly new Brooklyn band we're just starting to get into. Luckily for them they already seem to have a super dedicated fan base, which makes sense considering the catchy nature of their tunes. ["Awake"] is the sort of fun jam that will most likely make your Friday afternoon at work move just a little quicker and get you to the weekend! - Pop Tarts Suck Toasted

"New Music: Your Youth – “Diamond”"

Your Youth is the latest band to join the #90srevival trending topic, touching on the alt-rock influences that seemed so indie-uncool just a year or so back: Weezer, Jimmy Eat World and the nerdier parts of the year 1994, mostly, played through the beloved lo-fi lens of Pavement and Built to Spill. Unlike our pal Wavves, though, the Brooklyn trio seem to be genuine dorks — and accordingly endearing. - Rawkblog

Bio

Your Youth is a few kids with killer choruses in their heads and breezy harmonies in their back pockets, eternally ready to plug in and crush an amp with their bare melodies. Loud pop.

They buzz along in a galaxy of fuzzed-out guitars, with the windows rolled down at all times. But there’s a streak of snarl shot through their tales of blue sky and love bites. Theirs is a colorful world of dazzling indifference, vague regrets, and flatlining dreams, sung with a contradictory and abstract earnestness–they’re hung up on nothing at all and everything possible. They’re at their brightest when they stay up all night but they know they can’t do it forever. It’s the sound of Weezer and Wipers fighting over who gets to drive the girl home at the end of that night.

They’re lo-fi gone hi-fi, a little too slick for their own good but not afraid to shine. They’ll laugh at you while dancing with you, and then whisper “I love you” just to make you feel better. But for a moment, they’ll really mean it. Your Youth are a bunch of f*cking liars with loud f*cking guitars and huge f*cking drums, who just want to escape.
