Biography

Yumi is an innovative musician, 13 & 20-stringed-Koto player, composer, improviser and computer sounds creater. She began playing Koto at the age of three, won First prize at National Competition for students in 1989 and '92 and Scholarship from The Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan in '98. As well as extensive performance in Japan, she has toured in Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Russia and the U.S. In 2002, she moved to NY in pursuit of collaboration with various genres of musicians and has appeared on many well known venues such as Apollo sound stage, WNYC radio, Silk Road project, Joe's pub and held her concert at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie. She released her original CD, Beginning of a Journey in 2009.
