"Kingdom Authority Hosts "Peace in the Streets""

ROCKFORD - Music fills the air as Stateline residents gathered at Kingdom Authority Saturday. The community turning out for an afternoon of fellowship and good food to bring peace to the streets, inviting officers to do the same.

“Let them know that we still love them, that there's hope for our city. We try to use music and art to reach young people,” said Participant Jose Sanchez.

Organizers hope the event in Rockford strengthens bonds within the community-translating into a lower crime rate.

“It's about stopping the violence in the community, getting everybody to come together, and love on each other. It's time to love again. This is what this is all about, peace in the streets. Let's stop this violence, let's come together and let's love Jesus at the same time,” said Event Organizer Daytona Rhodes.

"With all of this crime going on, young people are losing their lives and we just wanted to reach out and show: Chicago, Rockford Illinois, Florida, Memphis, Tennessee that we all can come together as one,” said Participant Erick Perkins.

“In our nation, we all need to unite a little bit more, show a little bit more love,” said Sanchez.

Violent crime in Rockford has climbed over the past year but Perkins says that events like this show a brighter future, for future leaders.

“Helping them (kids) realize what they already should know…whether they want to be a lawyer, a doctor, a singer-show them that they can be bigger than circumstances that we face in our community,” said Perkins. - Mystateline.com
