Bio

At the millennium’s end Hip-Hop seemed to be spiraling out of control with a market
over-saturated with disposable music and artists, creating a generation of listeners
who’ve almost forgotten what true Hip-Hop sounds like. Enter Yung Texxu$, a native of
Killeen, TX. Known for his versatility and keen lyricism, “Texx” reminds listeners of what
Hip-Hop’s early Greats first sounded like. Texx follows a solid line of creative artists like
OutKast, Snoop Dogg, U.G.K., and N.W.A. Having been compared to Jay- Z by “The
Source Magazine” you can see why he’s been deemed “The Savior of The Dirty”.
Having worked with the likes of Scarface to Kelly Rowland, Yung Texxu$ can spit over
tracks with wide appeal for audiences ranging from undergound to mainstream music.
For these reasons alone he is sure to be a major player in Hip-Hop for years to come.
Darrell De’Angelo Contee a.k.a Yung Texxu$, was raised in the small city of Killeen,
TX. He was introduced to music at an early age by his mother Kim Contee an aspiring
artist herself. His father, Darrell Hovington spent the early part of Texx’s life serving a 10-
year prison sentence, so the future MC was 11-years old when they first met. With his
roots buried deep in the streets and music it wouldn’t be long before Yung Texxu$
followed in both of his parents’ footsteps. In middle school Texx became good friends
with Michael Jordan, Mike Hisatake’, J.R. Scott, Scotty Lee and Spade, who would
later form Killeen’s Famed “Green City”. Spark Dawg later joined the group after
returning from Atlanta. With a troubled past behind him including probation for
breaking and entering by age 12, gang affiliation, and a failing interest in school, Texx
made a decision that would change his life forever.
With his father being released from prison and in effort to be re-united with him and
finish high school, Texx left Killeen. He moved to Dover, DE in 2001 leaving behind
his mother, 2 sisters, and 1 brother. During his stay in the first state Texx met J.Lex
(John Cannon) and Sluggz ( John Graham-Ramsaroop). They formed the group “Hustle
Hard”. A year later, Texx be-friended a young Nishon Morris a.k.a N.I.S.H, and Larry
Harvey a.k.a. M.O.N.E.Y, of the group “Ill Villinz”. Together, Hustle Hard and Ill Villinz
released a string of underground mixtapes (Back To Ya Block, Operation Lock Down, D
Boyz, Sin City) and in 2002 they decided to consolidate Hustle Hard and Ill Villinz into
a single entity. One super-group, one movement thus, State City Music was born. In
2004 Yung Texxu$ was discovered by producer Rayza of Clubbalangg. Rayza had
heard Texx’s Mixtape “Classic G Musick”, and immediately flew him out to ATL signing
him on the spot. In 2005, Texx gained national exposure in “The Source Magazine”
and went on to drop a slew of underground smashes such as “Drank in My Cup”, “I Gits
the Money" ft. Big Hood Boss, Tum Tum (DSR/Universal) and “Still in Love with my Ex
(Remix)” with Kelly Rowland. His work with D.J. Scream on “Believe the Hype” placed
him at the forefront of underground Southern Hip-Hop. Since 2005 you may have seen
Yung Texxu$ pop up in magazines, Hip-Hop DVD’s, or websites, but for now the rest of
his tale has yet to be written. At many times Texx finds himself walking the thin line
between the streets and music. Enveloped by the underworld he can’t leave and
trapped by his obsession to ascend to the heights of Hip-Hop royalty, Texx is currently
working on his debut album “The Underground Prince”, scheduled for release in 2007.
Only time will tell how his saga will end..
