Yvette d'Entremont

This bilingual singer-songwriter from the Acadian region of Pubnico, Nova Scotia has been called a “chanteuse”, the “Edith Piaf of the 21st century”. Coming from a rich musical background, Yvette has been performing and writing songs since the age of nine. Her style has been referred to as “melodic”, “sweet”, “simple”, and “classy”. Her music is a rich blend of traditional and contemporary Acadian songs, as she smoothly eases her way into a few splashes of soft jazz favourites, much to the audience’s delight. French or English, her songs all have a common thread: they are linked by a simple melody.

Over the years, Yvette has been featured on CBC-TV’s Canada Now, ASN’s Breakfast Television, various radio programs, and has performed across the province at festivals, songwriter’s circles, and special events, including a memorable performance with Symphony Nova Scotia in October 2003 and 2004.

Since her debut, self-titled CD in 2003, other highlights have included two MIANS nominations for Francophone Artist of the Year, several appearances on ASN’s Breakfast Television and host of the Yarmouth Junior Idols, sharing the stage with Canadian singer Gary Beals. Her most recent accomplishment was a performance in France, where she took part in a three-day festival called “Acadie-en-Ré” along with other Acadian artists. Yvette’s efforts were also rewarded last winter with a 2006 ECMA nomination in the Francophone Recording of the Year category.

After her second release in the summer of 2004, Yvette began promoting her CD “Mes deux souliers”. She has since been doing some songwriting in preparation for her next CD, set for production in the spring of 2007. In August of 2005, she joined Lennie Gallant and Friends in a Songwriter’s Circle at the Beausoleil Festival in Hebron, Nova Scotia. In the fall of 2005, she was nominated for a second MIANS award in the Francophone Artist of the Year category, toured the French schools with the Maritime Forces Atlantic Stadacona Band, and performed a series of Christmas concerts with the Stad Band in early December, with host Scott Boyd. She has since performed with The Stadacona Band in Yarmouth (September 2006).

Both of d’Entremont’s albums have featured Cape Breton’s multi-talented instrumentalist JP Cormier, and have received high acclaim from key music industry personel, including a great deal of airplay. Several tracks from the albums are currently being played in radio stations across the province, in New Brunswick, Québec, Ontario, Saint Pierre et Miquelon, and Lousianna.

D’Entremont performed at the MIANS Showcase Suites during the 2005 ECMA’s in Sydney, N.S., has been featured on two ECMA nominated compilation CD’s, has won the prestigious francophone contest Gala de la chanson de la Nouvelle-Écosse in the singer-songwriter category, and was featured on her father’s Christmas CD, Noel Around the World (released in 2001).

Yvette d’Entremont is at her best when singing in front of an audience: her soft, yet passionate vocal style, create a lasting impression and her energetic performance is captivating. Her versatility both as a performer and keyboard player shines through in her traditional and energetic Acadian folktunes, and her French/Acadian ballads pull at the audience’s heartstrings. Her lyrics are a true reflection of her passion for life, tradition, Acadian culture, and above all, her absolute love of music.
