Bio

Precision was started in July 2008 when Ryan (Pianoist), Kevin (Bass Guitarist), & Gerald (Percussionist) were performing at Armani Rajas for a show. At that time, they met John (Yung Vokalz) and decided to let him sing in front of them. They called themselves Precision and performed well. The next few weeks consisted of long practices at a local nightclub called Mama’s & Son. After some miscommunication with another band that was playing there, the owner asked Ryan to call up his band and perform. Precision performed & rocked the house. The job was theirs if they so desired it and Precision then accepted. Other additions included Reginald (Vocalist), Sherri (Vocalist), Marcus (Percussionist), Desmond (Saxophonist), Dennis (Lead Guitarist) & Desmond (Operations Mgr.)

The band introduced itself as Yung Vokalz & Precision Grooves (YVPG) where they performed for the first time at Martinis Ultra Lounge in Hoover, Alabama. After a good opening show the promoter of Smooth Saturdays, Comelia Williams, offered them a position for the following week which was Magic City Classic Weekend, headlining with Vivica Fox & Case.

That Saturday night was filled with anticipation and YVPG performed up to standard. People could not stop talking about the energy and emotion this young talented band had. They were giving the crowd all they could handle plus more.

After stunning the crowd Classic weekend, the band accepted an offer to do another show at Jitterbuggs in Homewood, AL on Thursday nights. It was called Sensual Thursdays and it was phenomenal. YVPG introduced the city of Birmingham to a style of music that had not been heard before. A group of young individuals bonded with old school soul mixed with Rock & R&B.

YVPG was an instant hit performing all over in and outside of Birmingham, including places like Martini’s Ultra Lounge, The View over Birmingham, The House of Blues, WorkPlay, The Wine Loft, Matthews Bar & Grill, Wellington’s Bistro, Cosmo’s Sports Bar & Grill, The Platinum of Birmingham, The Birmingham Race Course, Ikonz Bar & Grille (Montgomery,AL) and The Owners Box (Montgomery,AL) .

Performing with artists such as Algebra, Dwele, Tank, Johnny Gill, Case, Vivica A. Fox, Calvin Richardson, Ced Delaney, Erykah Badu, Mose Stovall, Kandi Burress, K’Jon, Ruben Studdard and was also the HOTT 1077 Concert Series House band for 2009 which headlined at The Platinum.

The next year was big for YVPG; they were performing sometimes six nights a week at different nightclubs ending every week with a bang at Martinis on Saturday night. After awhile YVPG decided it was time to make a different impact so they started traveling to Montgomery, AL doing shows at Ikonz Bar & Grille and The Owners Box. Shortly after, YVPG accepted an offer to do the Tom Joyner Sky Show on Friday morning of Classic weekend (2009). The crowd was overwhelmed and so was all of Alabama. Classic night was an all-star lineup, starring Calvin Richardson & YVPG at Martinis Ultra Lounge. YVPG performed well, as expected, the crowd cheered them on as they expanded their horizons in ways the crowd could not imagine. The night ended well after a stellar performance by Calvin Richardson.

One day Desmond (Saxophonist) was sitting at UAB and came up with the idea to record a song, and Runnin’ Sideways was born. John and Reggie composed their individual versus and Desmond produced the track. The track was written about a relationship that wasn’t going anywhere; it wasn’t going forward or backwards, just running sideways. The track premiered at Jitterbuggs on a Thursday night and was an instant success. Birmingham’s own, 98.7 KISS-FM, Chris Coleman debuted the track on the air during homegrown weekend. The track has also been played on WENN 101.9 FM, Good Fellas radio, and Culture Shock Radio online.

YVPG has many influences which include: Earth, Wind, & Fire, Frankie Beverly & Maze, and Mint Condition. YVPG has touched the hearts of many, young and old. Involving themselves in the community by doing local charity events, appearing at local colleges and high schools, at the same time letting everyone know that music is expressed best with passion.
