Feeling a bit camera shy

I want women to know that they are strong,” Ywada says. “In my music, I try to focus on motivation and determination. I want women to realize that they can follow their dreams even if they have a day job or kids or anything else making demands on their time. If I can do it, they can do it.”

Her career path thus far has been as purposeful and unflinching as her attitude. As a teenager on an artist retreat, she caught the attention of BET’s Dr. Bobby Jones, who put her onstage with multiple Grammy Nominee Yolanda Adams. Encouraged by Adams’ high praise, Ywada went on open for R&B Group 112 in Miramar, Florida. The local press took notice, naming her Sarasota’s Singer of the Year and putting her behind the mic as a guest on nationally syndicated radio programs. She was also recently featured on Southwest Florida’s ABC 7 News.

While Ywada uses her new album to encourage other women to follow their own dreams, she is careful to acknowledge what sets her apart from other artists. “I believe that God chose me to do this and put an anointing on my voice,” she says simply. “I feel that there is a great soul that lives in me. That’s why I will keep going, no matter what the obstacles. I have to do this.”

And she’s not stopping there. “In five to ten years,” she says, “I want to be on stage in front of millions of people, telling my story. I want to make other women believe that there is no stopping them either.”

And to women who still think they’re too busy to find their own anointing on their lives, Ywada accepts no excuses. “You always have resources. My mom and friends help me take care of my children. Even with kids, even if there’s no father in the picture, you can set your goals and achieve them.”
