Zack Lipton Quintet

Zack Lipton Quintet

The Zack Lipton Quintet is a collective of musicians committed to dismantling popular notions of the boundaries between musical idioms. The band uses original compositions as a vehicle for synthesizing its members' eclectic tastes without compromising the integrity of any of its influences.

Born in New Rochelle, NY, Zack began playing the saxophone at eight and by thirteen developed an interest in jazz. While still in high school, he played with the NY Youth Symphony Jazz Orchestra in their debut season. After taking time to study mathematics at Columbia University, Zack rededicated himself to his musical development. in the fall of 2005, he formed the Zack Lipton Quartet, performing at various venues in New York City, such as the Knitting Factory, Smoke, and Columbia University. Recently, while still a student, Zack played as a sideman with trumpeter Theo Croker's Quintet. Throughout the course of his development, Zack has been privileged to study with such renowned performers as Marcus Strickland, Joel Frahm, Wes "Warmdaddy" Anderson and Branford Marsalis.
