Hindi Zahra

For the two past years, the international music scene has taken notice of Hindi Zahra for her prestigious opening acts and her participation in renown festivals. She combines a talent for composition, sliding from jazz to folk to chaabi music, with that of an author.

Hindi Zahra was born in Khouribgha, Morocco, and is of Berber and Touareg ancestry. Her music is an ancestral blues, an original jazz, an oriental vibration where she speaks of love, of assertiveness, of the world and how she is inspired by her encounters. Her songs reflect nostalgia for her country and her will to be here and there at the same time.

Hindi Zahra comes from a family of Berber artists, among them the famous band, Oudaden. Her mother and her uncles introduced her to traditional Gnawa music, Dylan's folk music, and Marley's reggae. She learned from her relatives the ancient rhythms and the best of the melodies of the Egyptian repertory.

Hindi Zahra is a self-made artist, an author and a composer. The American magazine The Wire described her as the spiritual daughter of Django Reinhardt and Billie Holiday. It's clear that she is on the verge of following a great musical path.

I the past year she has received vabulous acclaim following live performances at the EUROSONIC festival (Netherlands), WOMAD festival in UK and Spain, or even ROCK EN SEINE in paris.

Hindi Zahra is definitely on to watch for 2010 !!
