Zambra

Zambra is rhythmic pattern found in flamenco music. It is also an ancient Arabic term meaning festival. Both of these descriptions fit the music created by the group, which is an eclectic combination of flamenco, funk, jazz, salsa, folk, gypsy, and rock sounds. Zambra's live shows are often inspired into intricate musical jam sessions with each member showcasing their expertise on their instruments. Audiences are usually moved to the groove of the international rhythms culminated from the sextet. The group is lead by the soulful, sultry voice of Paola Kerneur. Next in the lineup is the flamenco-rock flavored guitar wizardry of Nao Vang. Holding strict funk groove on the low end of the frequency is James Garza on bass. Elvia Ramirez lays down the Latin jazz flavor with her percussions. Playing sweet melodies ranging from gypsy to classical inspired solos is Patrick Contreras on the violin. The lineup is completed with masterful drums/percussion virtuosity of Jason Williams.
Originally, Zambra started as a trio playing for coffee houses and private parties. As they gained popularity within the past five years, they have added the San Diego jazz festival, opening for Grammy award winning Poncho Sanchez, touring throughout the southwestern United States, and various other venues to their roster of growing performances.

With their music, Zambra hopes to unite people of different musical tastes and ultimately find a unique voice of their own in this world of trends and followers. Because of the blended cacophony created by Zambra, they hope to reach out to every musical genre and prove that music can bring together understanding and appreciation of other cultures.
