Bio

Zang Tang began in 2008 in the basement of Jack Baldus’ house, with Jody Hoare and Jack jamming to some funk beats after talking about playing together for many years. Inspired by the initial sounds they made Jody recruited latin percussionist Tom Haunton and this instantly added a whole new lively acid jazz vibe to the music.

Instrumental music was great but everyone knew that vocals were needed so the next addition to the project was Clyde Hoare who also happened to play guitar in a very funky way. Suddenly a groove based sound was starting to develop and the addition of bass and 2nd guitar completed the new sound.

Tracks were written by Clyde and Jack and a few covers selected and the first gigs booked which achieved highly positive feedback from those listening. A re-arrangement of the band in September 2008 saw the arrival of new bass player, Mark Brown and Clyde take on all guitar duties in addition to lead vocals.

The sound of Zang Tang is unique and this comes from the diverse musical interests of the different members of the band which cover everything from 70’s funk and disco to prog rock and house music. One thing is for sure the music is funky and has a strong groove that will make you want to dance all night.

This year the band have played numerous live gigs including, Jamstand, Nozstock Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Marlborough Jazz Festival and many music venues in Bristol including headline spots at Mr Wolfs. Next year the band hope to play larger national festivals and take the sounds of the Tang to more live music venues across the UK.
