"Influences"

- All About Jazz Italia, October 2007

"Influences"

What's intriguing is the range of sources that runs the gamut from Bird to John Scofield. Yardbird Suite" is given a wonderful reading, with its introduction starting with the melody initially being played out-of-tempo. - Cadence Magazine, August 2007

"Influences"

Influences is the work of a very special duo. The listener will be charmed by Tiziano Zanotti's spacious, warm double bass playing and Alessio Alberghini's beautiful designed sax sound shifting from mellow tones to surprising playful improvisations. In the end this clever synthesis of technique and emotion will certainly makes you realize you're not just listening to another rendition of standards but to a quite genuine sonic signature. - jazzworldquest.com, May 2007

Bio

Alessio Alberghini and Tiziano Zanotti, both multi-instrumentalists with several live and studio experiences, have developed this project with the aim of exploring their musical inspiration, paying special attention to the jazz and contemporary music influences.

Starting from the ten tracks of “Influences” (Echoes 2006), their first CD as a duo, and using just double bass and soprano sax, they perform a repertoire of original compositions and beloved jazz standards, generating new sounds and colours and experimenting uncommon improvisation lines.

They try to dismantle and remount the structures of the jazz music, going back and forth between its typical language and other fascinations, in an effort to overcome the traditional roles assigned to their instruments and find new and more effective ways to value them. A duo which surprises for their energy and rhythmic quality.

The two musicians are currently recording their second album, which will move forward their experimentation effort, also through the introduction of other instrumentalists and effects.

ALESSIO ALBERGHINI - Flutes, saxophones, clarinets, composition

After graduating at the “G.B. Martini” conservatoire in Bologna, he attended a number of seminars on flute music interpretation and teaching. He then decided to take up the saxophone, too: he studied with Claude Delangle at the “Sax Master Class” and in 2002 he successfully graduated with Daniele Faziani. In the meanwhile he approached the jazz music, following improvisation courses with Ivan Valentini, Haddy Handerson and Tomaso Lama. In July 2004 he attended the specialization course of the Berklee Summer School directed by Larry Monroe, Giovanni Tommaso and Roger Brown at Umbria Jazz, winning its prestigious scholarship. He has performed with different ensembles, facing repertoires ranging from classical music to jazz, Afro-Cuban jazz and musicals, touring both in Italy and abroad. He has played in several recordings and worked with prominent musicians, in particular André De La Roche, Andrea Centazzo, Davide Masarati (soundtracks for Mediaset), Sandro Comini and the Oscar prize winner Nicola Piovani.

TIZIANO ZANOTTI - Bass, double bass, composition

After completing his classical studies, he attended several jazz and rock music master classes, becoming also a skilled guitar, piano and cello player. He studied with: Marc Johnson, Furio di Castri, Palle Danielsson, Bruno Tommaso, Pat Martino, Ubaldo Fioravanti, Trilok Gurtu, Gianluigi Trovesi, Peter Erskine, John Taylor, Giancarlo Gazzani. He has participated in a number of recording productions as a performer, arranger and artistic producer, playing with a number of outstanding musicians like Claudio Lolli, Nicola Piovani's Oracoeli Orchestra, Andrea Bocelli, Franz Campi, Josef Alessi, Andrea Giuffredi, Parto delle Nuvole Pesanti (to name just a few), and in several orchestras and jazz and rock bands. As a leader he has produced the following CDs: “Minimized” (CFM 1998), “Tarabuk” (Velut Luna 2006) and "Influences" (Echoes 2007), acclaimed by both the public and the specialized press. He is also a well-known music educator. He has taught at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Fondazione Arturo Toscanini in Parma and Idea in Bologna. In 1996 he founded the "Centro di Formazione Musicale" in Bologna, where he worked as director and teacher of bass and double bass, publishing a number of manuals and multimedia CDs translated into English and French. His latest instructional manual, “Bassista contemporaneo” (Echoes 2006), is now a sales success.
