Feeling a bit camera shy

In a relatively short period of time in the music industry, Sally Hamidi has had the priviledge of working with some of electronic/dance music industry's top-dogs. Her debut album, Mystic Maah, gave way to two top-charting singles "Only Your Love" as signed by Shinichi Records and then appearing on the world-renowned compilation "Global Underground: Toronto" with Deep Dish, being on Billboard's #1 dance charts upon release, as well as "Mystic Roya" signed by the legendary John Digweed, appearing on numerous compilations. Her various collaborations such as “Desire” and “Orchis” with Holmes Ives landed major recognition and releases with the likes of Ministry of Sound and Rennaisance.

It is of no surprise that the songwriting style and sound of "Seroya", Sally's musical moniker, lends itself with such ease and integrity to cross boundaries into varying sub-genres. Sally's background goes as far back as age six, when she studied the Persian instrument, Setar, then moving to the classical music genre and sharpening her teeth by studying orchestration, piano performance, and music theory. It is with this knowledge in her tool kit, along with various boards and knobs and tweaks, that she is able to craft songs that are far reaching and unique in their own right.

Her second and most current release, features a more hard-edged and raw expression of her musical sensibilities. Reflecting on her personal experiences, her surviving the Iran/Iraq war and adjusting to a new culture, along with current events shaping the world as we know it, all played a vital part in tapping into the subconscious vein of inspiration. With the production collaboration of Don Bosse, the two formed an alliance on this release, giving way to a humanistic yet abstract approach to sonic treatments, playing with various effects and time warping manipulations. The result is a hypnotic, subliminally dark, moody and sensual presentation of well-crafted electronica.

Armin Van Burren’s label, Armada Music, has recently picked up the single remix off of this new album, and it is circulating with rave reviews. With other singles in line to be re-worked and remixed by the likes of Holmes Ives, this album has a lot to offer, not only to solo listening journies, but rocking dance floors in the world’s public.
