"Zavey Making a Statement"

Zavey Making A Statement!

August 7, 2010 Rated Next

What’s the first thing you would say to someone when they ask you to describe yourself as an artist?

I’m Original and I make sure i don’t sound like anybody else i don’t wanna be compared to other artists I’m just about making good music I’m very versatile i can rap about damn near anything on any beat some artist limit themselves to one subject or type beat but i like to keep people guessing

How long have you been in the industry?

Well i wouldn’t say I’m in the industry yet but i been dealing with music for a long time ever since i was little i used to memorize lyrics to songs after hearing the song once or twice and i wrote poetry by 9th grade i was writing raps to beats from the radio and throwing em away then one day at school i let my patna C dot read it and he said i went hard and he wanted to make a group so i agreed and we recorded songs everyday after school dropped our first mix-tape and got a good response so when kept it going thru out all four years of high school networking on Myspace and constantly gaining fans and gained popularity from it by the time we graduated we were well known as rappers in our area and Myspace then we had a few minor setbacks i started attending PV while C Dot was at TSU so it was hard to find a place to record but i kept writing and we started working on our mix-tape “Goin N’ on weekends and when i came back to Houston recording at j-co da shodawg home studio around that time we didn’t have any original beats just instrumentals and then i met Dozier of da shit factory (DJ Mr. Rogers & stuntndozier) i let him hear a couple tracks he liked it so he sent me two beats for us to use on our mixtape then came da hits Never Sober & Late Nite so when dropped the mixtape posting it everywhere twitter facebook etc…we gained even more fans and now i decided to make a solo mixtape “Thinking Out Loud” to express myself as an artist with beats by StuntnDozier the producers of get it big,Flex, Daddystroke etc…..and we will follow that wit another FaDemHataz mixtape with C Dot Bush

What Inspires Your Music?

My life things and I’ve been thru or stuff I’ve seen and most of the time I just make the music I think people will enjoy hip hop is full of to many rappers tryna top another rapper I’m just doing my thang and staying humble I let the fans decide what’s good music

Where are you from?

Born and raised in Houston TX the north side to be exact 44 acres home Tidwell …..yea all that

What artist in the industry inspire you the most today?

I would have to say Big K.R.I.T is doing it big right now I like how he came out hard wit his ‘’KRIT WUZ HERE’’ mixtape as a indy artist that’s how I wanna do…..i wanna make a timeless mixtape

Why is that? Well big krit seems like the type of artist that’s going to have longevity in the game instead of being a one hit wonder and I plan on being in the game for a minute I’m very dedicated to this music

What makes you different from other artist today?

My heart and desire to be successful ……this is a more than dream for me it’s what I was meant to do what it takes to get to my goal

Do you have any upcoming projects?

"Zavey"

About Zavey
HOUSTON, TX
. Houston, TX bred artist Zavey strives to not only create good music but good

music for everyone to vibe to. Zavey got his start at a young age through one of the most

fundamental skills we learn as kids, reading. He says that as a kid he picked up rhyming

skills by reading a lot of Dr. Seuss books.

Coming behind artists like Bun B, Chamillionaire and Slim Thug, Zavey is putting his

own stamp on the Houston music scene. While many artists are focused on how to make

it NOW, Zavey is reaching toward the goal of longevity. - http://www.ourstage.com/Zavey

"Yung Zavey"

Told y’all Texas stays on my radar…….

“In the end I’m gon’ get mine because I’ma do what I gotta do…”~Yung Zavey

If you look at the numbers, a good portion of hip-hop music is supported by those of a “lighter persuasion”! So I’d say it’s probably a good idea to have in your plan as an artist to be able to make music for the masses rather than a select few. If you think about any of the major hip-hop artist, mass appeal is definitely a part of their success.

Well add that to Yung Zavey’s plan too!

Houston, TX bred artist Zavey is most definitely puttin’ on for his city. His latest mixtape Thinking Out Loud should be in everyone’s rotation right now. It’s a super DOPE mixtape hosted by DJ Fletch & the LEGENDARY production team Stunt n Dozier.

Funny how he says he got started…….reading a lot of Dr. Seuss books as a kid! (Side note: Some of y’all need to do this as adults!!!) I can’t say that listening to him reminds me of anyone, he’s got a very original sound. His freestyle to Wayne’s “6 Foot 7 Foot” is fo sho a winner!

His approach to his craft is unique as well. I think a lot of artist think short term……get money NOW. Zavey has a different approach in that he’s goin’ for longevity, all expressed on the track “Everybody Raps.” When you LOVE what you do there’s no such thing as retirement. As Zavey would say, “You only temporary like a passion mark.”

I like his style ’cause: 1. He’s laid back wit his delivery & 2. I can understand what he sayin’…not so true for some MAJOR artist out right now. He’s absolutely making good music and developing his own lane, not only in the Houston market but in the music game period.

I can say that this dude has to be in my top 3 artist I put on here yet!(Don’t nobody ask me who the other 2 are please, LOL).

Check out and D/L Thinking Out Loud here. Be on the lookout for “Herbs, Nouns, & Verbs” slated for release on 4/20. You can check out some of his stuff on YouTube as well.

"Up Yonder Mixtape Review"

Mixtape Review : Zavey's "Up Yonder"

“I’m Headed... up yonder”- Zavey

Zavey’s debut in March 2012 was his fourth mixtape project “Up Yonder”. Hosted by DJ Burn One from Atlanta, GA and Party Boys DJ Mr. Rogers from Houston, TX.

In this 20 track masterpiece, Zavey sets it off with a mildly slow head strong song titled the “Up Yonder (Intro)” (Produced by Stunt N’ Dozier). In this song he speaks on his biggest hopes for his music career following other in-depth thoughts. I can already sense emotion and truth from just this one track and it’s just getting started. But I’m not surprised how Zavey can throw out the bait and gradually reel in his audience. Moving on down through the mixtape Zavey, the Rise N’ Grind team, Lil Ray and Lil Pooh go hard in the paint on that NO BULL SHIT approach from tracks “Verbal Assault”(Produced by The Prodeuser), “Holla at Me” (Produced by Stunt N’ Dozier) and “Punch Lines II”(Produced by The Prodeuser). If you like to puff, puff and pass…a LOT then “Smoker’s Club” (Produced by DJ Burn One) is your anthem.

In 1974, Bobby Bland (Blue), who was a popular rock and blues singer, first recorded the soulful track “Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City” originally written by Michael Price and Dan Walsh. Fast forwarding into 2012, Zavey and producer Robert Powell put together an urban remake of this song called “Ain’t No Love”. There are a few differences from the original first starting with the beat, which sounds exactly like the first, but on Zavey’s make it’s a bit up tempo and has added instrument effects. Bobby’s vocals on the chorus of the original song are integrated in Zavey’s version, while both songs have different concepts in their lyrics. This isn’t the first time that piece’s of Bobby’s song and small modeling of the beat were used. Major American rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z did this first back in his 2001 “Blue Print” album, but titled his version “Heart of the city” (Ain’t No Love). If I had to choose between one of the remakes; I would say Zavey’s version is better as far as beat production and lyric concept of this song.

I know we all can relate to the many relationship scenarios Zavey speaks on throughout the mixtape such as: the on and off dating, finding that special person, family troubles, friendship and more. He even brings a bit of humor in personal stories at the beginning or end of a few of his songs. Fellas, you might want to be sure Zavey ain’t got your gal. Holding her legs or biting her lips, she may just go hit him up after dipping a listen to freaky fantasy charged “Anatomy”(Produced by The Prodeuser) and “Freaks”(Produced by Stunt N’ Dozier). Tying in with this “Up Yonder” seeps in the ultimate grown and sexy vibe on that “DJ Mr. Rogers (Interlude)”. This track begins as an instrumental infused with smooth Piano, Saxophone, Bass, Trumpet, and drum patterns. Then the song hypes up a bit, but still keeping its smooth vibe while transitioning into more of an old school hip-hop feel and adding minimal lyrics. It’s very different from the usual, but it brings in a new side to Zavey while putting the mixtape on a whole other level.

Once again Zavey puts everything on the table making sure his audience is paying attention and never missing a beat. He brought very demanding lyrics in this project along with taking a whole new fresh direction in the overall feel of the mixtape. Therefore, “Up Yonder” deserves 20 stars in my book. "The Best Rapper in Texas"

Posted up in Houston, TX you can catch Xavier Eythell (Zavey) just kickin’ it, thinking of a master plan with a blunt in hand, But there’s no doubt when it’s time to put those plans for his music into action Zavey and his team Rise N’ Grind Productions are up and at it diligently. And you better believe that all his hard work is steady paying off. Zavey competed in The Best Rapper in Texas contest in 2011 and won. He’s released five hit mix-tapes thus far with stellar production from Stunt N’ Dozier Beats. He has also been invited to perform at popular hot spots throughout Houston such as Zanzi Bar, SF2 (Sneakers and Fashion), The Back Room, House of Blues (Opening performance for Trae The Truth) and more. And recently earlier this year he was added to the “Cool Club Tour” alongside Atlanta, GA featured artist Scotty (@ScottyATL) and DJ Burn One (@DJ Burn One).

As Zavey continues on his journey to the top his main mission is to knock down all the hype and step it up bringing back good music “ I feel like it’s so much bullshit out now that most of it is hype…I plan to change that.” He says.

Qure: Zavey! I’m excited to chop it up with you; how have you been?

Zavey: I’ve been good… Just been on the grind as usual.

Q: I see you’ve been doing some performances in Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin, TX. How does it feel to be back on stage performing in other major cities of Texas?

Z: It’s been a great experience. Shout out to @ScottyATL and @DJBurnOne for adding me to the tour! …I had so much fun and Dallas showed a lot of love.

Q: “The Lunch Tray” is your latest mix-tape out right now; what experience are you taking from this project to span greater advancement in your music?

Z: I always try to kick it up a notch each time I drop something new. The Lunch Tray showed me that I came a long way from my first project but I still have room for improvement.

Q: Will you be dropping any new mix-tapes or collaboration tracks soon?

Z: Yes. Me and my team Rise N’ Grind are doing a compilation mixtape with songs from all of our artist’s and me and Heazy are dropping “Herbs, Nouns, and Verbs 2” on 4/20. “All Eyes on Zavey” is a Tupac tribute tape I’m dropping later this year ….I have three more I’m working on too.

Q: Do you feel surprised at how far you’ve come since when you first started out doing music?

Z: Nah. Not surprised. Even at a young age I knew I would be great ….I’ve been blessed with this talent so I feel like it’s meant to be.

Q: What qualities do you believe a person should possess, in any craft they decide to pursue; to work towards becoming great or genius in that field?

Z: Keep god first in whatever you do. Be humble, work hard, have determination, have patience, have a goal, stay focused, and most importantly… NEVER give up! Especially if it’s something you are passionate about.

Q: Sum up a vision of what you believe is missing from our generation of rap and hip-hop music. Also, what could be a solution to this issue?

Z: Actually GOOD music! I feel like its so much bullshit out now that most of its hype… I plan to change that.
