House party still going strong

Following the success of June's In the House Festival, artistic director Myriam Steinberg is launching a series of concerts on the fifth day of every month in private homes around Vancouver. The shows will feature performers from the local music, theatre, dance, spoken-word, and storytelling communities. "People are still talking about the festival, and we wanted to keep that spirit alive until next year's edition," Steinberg told the Straight. "The concept and the formula for the series remains the same: to create a space for the arts in which audiences and performers truly interact, to promote upcoming talent as well as more established artists, and to present more than one act per evening." But whereas In the House took place in a two-block area of the Grandview neighbourhood, the series will be spread throughout the city. The first event is a concert this Saturday (August 5), at 1941 Turner Street (off Victoria Drive), with the Camino Flamenco trio and Brazilian samba and forro band Zazueira.
