"The Shred Report"

Livermore, CA's Zen Vendetta has been announced as the grand prize winner of $10,000 and a prospective record deal in Fuse's Make A Star Original Music Contest. The victory came on the wings of their single "I'm Alive," which had previously made an impression on Grammy voters, being named a preliminary nominee in multiple categories. Sure, they have a more straightforward rock sound than you would expect to read about here, but it certainly doesn't sound like the preprocessed schlock that gets crammed down our throats everyday. Congratulations to the band on their victory, and here's looking forward to great CD release in the forthcoming Out on the West Coast!

"RoughEdge.com CD Reviews"

The First Four" (Self-released; 2006)

Zen Vendetta's "The First Four" is a collection of (you guessed it) four rugged rock'n'roll songs that combine the best of classic hard rock with a perfectly balanced modern edge.

Track 1, "Primed And Ready," starts things off on the right foot with a great, crunchy riff, an irresistible chorus and a fast, toe-tapping tempo. You'll be singing along by the time the second verse rolls around. This songs reminds me in lyrics and attitude of Elton John's "Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting," a truly great song even today.

Track 2 starts out a little differently. "I'm Alive" is a life-affirming anthem that builds up and eventually crushes like a great Godsmack tune;

"Fuel to Fill Me Up," track 3, is a mid-paced sizzler which really shows off the pipes of Scott Eckardt, who sounds like nothing more here than Geoff Tate of Queensryche.

The final track, "Waiting for a Train," is the token ballad and it's a good one. Reminiscent of a great Night Ranger song, but better, "Waiting for a Train" closes the EP out on just the right note.

There's a line in "Primed and Ready" that goes: "The music is so much different now, but if you play it with passion and you play it proud, they'll stand in line waitin'." Zen Vendetta play it both with passion and with pride and their EP is proof positive that those lyrics are a precognition - I'm sure they're already standing in line, waiting for Zen Vendetta.

At the moment, this EP is only available at the band's shows an on iTunes.

Zen Vendetta: Scott Eckardt - Vocals; Michael Gabriel - Guitar; Etan Mizrahi-Shalom - Guitar; Josh Wolfer - Bass Guitar; Tony Betanco - Drums.

"Zen Vendetta Wins title in Final two for Make a Star Original Music Contest on"

Make A Star Season Finale: Original Music Finalists Perform, $10,000 Winner of Web to TV Contest Revealed this Saturday
Fans of rising rock bands Fools & Horses (Baltimore, Maryland) and Zen Vendetta (Livermore, California) await the results of online votes and judge scores. Make A Star's debut season wraps up on FUSE this Saturday at 10:30AM with the finalists appearing in person.

March 11, 2009 -- March is a time of year filled with tournament madness, filling out brackets and voting for your favorite musician in a national competition. But for two upstart rock bands on opposite sides of America, this March is different, as they've found themselves in the spotlight, with music fans around the world casting votes for them.

Fools & Horses, an alternative rock band from Baltimore, Maryland and Zen Vendetta, a hard rock band from the east bay town of Livermore, California are the two groups left in the final match of Make A Star's Original Music contest. Fools & Horses' song "Selfish" and Zen Vendetta's "I'm Alive" had until Sunday March 8th to gain as many fan votes on MakeAStar.com as they can and hope Make A Star's panel of music industry judges (including legendary A&R executive Russ Regan) give their original songs the higher score. Voting closed on Sunday, and now the world waits for the nationally broadcast season finale for the winner to be revealed.

Make A Star, the brainchild of founder Dr. Iman Foroutan, is a competition and contest website (www.MakeAStar.com) that has revolutionized the music and talent reality competition concept by linking the internet and television together seamlessly.

Bands and solo artists in all styles of popular and independent music uploaded their music videos on MakeAStar.com to enter this competition free of charge. With so many competition and social networking websites now available for musicians to promote their music, MakeAStar.com has stood out by providing a fast-track to national exposure by broadcasting a weekly national TV show in conjunction with the online competition.

Syndicated on FUSE Saturday mornings at 10:30 AM, the Make A Star show highlights dozens of the highest scoring and most unique music videos throughout the competition. Hosts Lynda Halligan and Greg Chard bring a fresh mix of class and cheeky humor to the half-hour show as they recap the latest winners and new music each week. This Saturday's season finale features both finalists in person, as representatives from Fools & Horses and Zen Vendetta journey to Make A Star's southern California studio for the taping, where they'll perform their songs and find out who wins live on set.

Asked to share their thoughts, Fools and Horses' Matt Hutchison, said, "The band is really stoked to have made it this far. Our fans are really rooting us on and couldn't be more thrilled at our success. Zen Vendetta is a fantastic group and 'I'm Alive' is a rockin' song. The guys in the band are also extremely gracious and kind, so we're going into this final round as new and good friends. I'm looking forward to meeting them and coming out to California to the Make a Star HQ!"

Zen Vendetta singer Scott Eckardt and bassist Josh Wolfer echoed similar sentiments, saying that they are "honored to be in this final round with Fools & Horses. In our brief interactions with Matt Hutchison, it was quite evident that he is a genuine and great person. It's gonna be a blast being in the studio with him and the Make a Star crew! Let's make rock n' roll history this weekend!"

The final match is a showdown that e spans both coasts, from the nation's capital to the Golden Gate Bridge. These two distinctly American rock bands bring slightly different flavors of sound and style, but both rock with class and sonic refinement that has taken them to the top of this competition - proving they both have a huge future ahead of them that can only be helped by Make A Star's $10,000 cash prize and national media exposure.

"Zen Vendetta's Coming of Age"

If you spend time around the San Francico music scene
you'll see alot of bands and hear alot of music.
Unfortunately much of what's seen and heard isn't
noteworthy. However, once in a while, you'll get a
glimpse of something special. We saw that last night
at the Rockit Room on Clement in San Francisco in the
performance of Zen Vendetta. We came out and watched
them play last fall and were intrigued. Back then,
they showed raw potential. It's obvious to us that
they've been hard at work. From their opener "Fuel"
to their closing with two new songs chained back to
back-- "West Coast" and "Through The Rain," the packed
house was absolutely enthralled. And so were we.
Front man Scott Eckardt worked the crowd and in
response the crowd worked Scott. The songs came rapid
fire-- the meter solid, the bass and guitars perfectly
interwoven. No ballads, no excuses-- just driving
rock and roll, like it was meant to be played. Rumor
is that they're about to go into the studio at The
Plant to finish a full length CD. There's even a
promotion for it on ErrorFM.com. We can't wait to get
our hands on it. If it's half as good as their live
show, then, we smell a few singles, a very bright
future and Zen Vendetta's coming of age.

"An Original Music Star is Born : Bay Area Rockers Zen Vendetta Win..."

(SkyNewswire.com)--- Orange, CA -- Reality television seems to thrive on the worst kind of drama -

unnecessary conflict by people so obnoxious it's hard to find anyone you think deserves to be seen

on TV. Then along came Make A Star, a new show syndicated on FUSE Saturday mornings for a 13

episode season that turned that stereotype around - exposing a wealth of unsigned American bands

and solo artists to a national TV audience, and finishing it all off with two finalists competing for a

$10,000 cash prize where the only shame was that one of them had to lose.

Make A Star's concept was simple, but entirely unique in streamlining the Internet with TV - upload a

music video for free to MakeAStar.com, compete for fan votes and the scores of music industry

judges, and hope your video gets broadcast on the weekly show. Hundreds of acts in everything from

hip-hop, country, electro, punk, pop, and metal entered, but at the end of the Hollywood Phase

bracket only two bands were left - Fools & Horses and Zen Vendetta.

Fools & Horses formed in 2002 and have built up a huge fan base in the Baltimore / Washington D.C.

area with a tireless schedule of gigs. This live excellence comes through on their Make A Star

contest song "Selfish." Singer/guitarist Matt Hutchison and band mates Kent Warren (bass), Steve

Herrera (guitar) and Tim Hutchison (drums) blend layers of riffs, tempos and melodies into an

euphoric energy that can set a wide range of dance floors on fire with ease. Fools & Horses make

divisions within alternative rock seem to disappear, with influences from Britpop to American classic

rock filling the stellar landscape of their critically acclaimed album I Am The Ghost. These guys are

going to be big.

Make A Star flew Matt Hutchison out from Baltimore to Southern California on short notice for the

final show, where he met up with Zen Vendetta singer Scott Eckardt and bassist Josh Wolfer, who

hopped aboard the much shorter flight from Oakland to Orange County.

The show featured extended artist interviews, behind-the-scenes footage of both bands on the plane

and arriving at their hotels, and special joint performances of each band's contest song with the

opponent joining in on each other's songs.

Then came the winning announcement, as Russ Regan, the A&R legend who helped launch Elton

John's American success, signed Neil Diamond and gave Brian Wilson the idea to name his band

The Beach Boys, stepped out to open the envelope. While both bands had huge fan turnouts and

high judge scores, Zen Vendetta came out on top, taking home the $10,000 cash prize.

Matt Hutchison gracefully accepted the surprise $1,000 runners-up check, and his reflection on the

whole process revealed a rising band with a refreshingly positive and mature disposition. "I can't tell

you how much fun the band and I had with Make A Star. Even though we were runners up, I left

Orange County feeling very much a champion. From the production staff to the hosts and producer, I

witnessed a class act unfold on camera. I foresee great things from Make A Star and was excited to

be a part of it!"

For Zen Vendetta's Scott Eckardt, it was a time to shine. The lead singer has shared the stage with

several major hard rock acts over the course of his career, but has still remained mostly a well-kept

secret outside the east bay town of Livermore, California, where he began his musical journey as

vocalist for the band Us in the 1980s and still calls home today.

Livermore is of course just minutes away from the Altamont Speedway, site of the 1969 Rolling

Stones free concert that holds some of rock and roll's darkest memories. But Eckardt's lyrics for their

Make A Star contest song "I'm Alive" are a world removed from those ghosts - emotional, honest,

and socially poignant, the song paints a reflective, positive image of love and courageous self-belief

that makes it an emboldening anthem for the zeitgeist of 2009 America, yet delivered with a sense of

poetic metaphor that will stand the test of time.

Musically, the song blends elements of classic rock and modern alternative rock cohesively, and the

band sees the mix of "a veteran soul with modern blood" as a key to their success. Josh Wolfer

(bass), Ben Sairin (guitar), & Chris Mabry (drums) can rock hard, strum softly and craft tight and

catchy hooks, but what makes the band special is a sense that they all have slightly different tastes

in music and revel in that diversity. There are hints of 1960s summer of love, of Led Zeppelin

thundering in a stadium, of early U2 and Guns N' Roses hanging out and enjoying each other's

music, of Pearl Jam's finest moments, and it all begins to feel that a mini-history of rock and roll is

weaved amongst the song's textures.

Winning the Make A Star Original Music Contest is a huge step for the young band (who formed in

2006 with the final lineup set just last year), paving the way for their debut full length CD Out On The

West Coast due in stores this month. Zen Vendetta have the ambitious goal to "create the rock

sound of the future" and by winning the Make A Star contest, they've received a loud roar of approval

that they're well on their way - and the future looks bright, as Scott says "with all the negativity in the

world, Zen Vendetta gives a glimpse of the sun shining through the rain."
