ZeneSoul

ZeneSoul, an R&B/ Neosoul artist from Brampton, Canada uses music as her voice. A voice that tells her story to the world and aims to empower those listening. Born in Nigeria, ZeneSoul was in a home not exposed to mainstream secular music. Even after moving to Toronto at the age of 7, all she listened to was African gospel artists, in addition to artists such as Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary. It was not until high school that ZeneSoul started listening to popular music on 106&park, opening her world up to a new sound in music. During this time, ZeneSoul found a connection and love for the amazing work and talent that is Lauryn Hill. She also found inspiration in other artists such as India Arie, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Chrisette Michelle. One can say that at this time, ZeneSoul and her love for Neosoul and R&B was born.

Besides not being surrounded by music while growing up, she always enjoyed writing and creating her own lyrics and even at the young age of 11, writing songs was a passion. This love for writing plays a big role in her style of music. ZeneSoul forces listeners to listen deeply to her lyrics with the clarity in her voice and the simplicity of the instrumentals in the background. In a world so drawn to melodies and beats, ZeneSoul has found a way to maintain the use of her soulful lyrics as a language while still catering to the mainstream love for melodies and beats. In March 2019, she released her first EP titled WORTH. which included her two hit singles Pricey and Lost. Since the EP ZeneSoul has also released two new singles NoWhere and Like Dat.

As this is the first year music was released by ZeneSoul, she aimed to just create and learn about her style and the direction she wanted to take. She believes she now has a better understanding of who she is and what stories to tell. She plans on releasing a live performance EP as well as more singles in the coming months. She has gained radio plays on flow93.5 and Vibe 105.5 and has performed for events such as Manifesto, NXNE, and the city of Brampton. She has also received reviews from many blogs with one review from La On Lock stating that “ZeneSoul zaps the soul back into R&B and Neo-Soul”.  With ZeneSoul’s life filled with many stories, she aims to use music as a platform to tell those stories.
