"CD Baby's "Editors Pick" Review"

ZEROMIND: Ground Zero EP
”If you're any fan of metal, Hardcore, or Numetal, you don't want to miss Zeromind. With pummeling,
intense hard rock, in-yo-face aggressive vocals intertwined with metal leanings, this is smart music that
immediately goes in for the kill- no messing around. Having a talent to know when to turn up the angst and
emotional volume (as well as literal volume) and when to ease it off, this band stands out as one that doesn't
leave its brains behind amidst all the thrashing, heavy grind. Oh, it'll rock you alright- but it will beat you up
with a toolbox of intelligence and ingenuity as much as loud, explosive guitars. Just listen.”

"ZEROMIND @ The Whisky. Live show review."

Live show review at Powerslave.com – Whisky A Go Go, Hollywood
“Zeromind blasted off next with a strong set of songs. Two singers front this band, one giving singing
elements and the other with a rappish screaming style. Their mix of vocals blended well, with no one singer
trying to dominate the other. Nothing was over emphasized and the incorporation of several musical
methods made Zeromind a well- molded band to even fit in well with this night?s line up. With songs that
forcefully pull you into jumping with them, Zeromind easily got the crowd moving. Lots of people with
cameras though, including on the stage. While Zeromind had these cameras covering all angles during their
set, it took a little away from their appearance. As their debut at the "sold out" Whisky though, Zeromind gave
Hollywood a taste of what?s coming their way.”

""Ground Zero EP" review"

The Gauntlet: Ground Zero EP
“In the last few years there has been somewhat of an explosion in the alternative metal genre. Bands like
Saliva, Seether, Slipknot and Linkin Park have been doing pretty well for themselves these days. One might
argue that Linkin Park is rapcore and Slipknot is metalcore but for the moment let?s not get that specific. In
general, these bands play a modern form of metal that takes great influence from many different styles and
melds them together into something new. Zeromind is one of these bands and they are not afraid to admit it.
“Zeromind proudly call the hip-hop influenced sounds of the 90's their home” is a quote taken form their
official web site which also mentions Korn and Linkin Park,Rage Against The Machine, Killswitch Engage as influences.
On the „Ground Zero EP?, their first release, they also blend Hardcore, metal, and alternative like the above
mentioned bands, however they do it in a way that is not predictable. They do not sound exactly like any one
of the above mentioned bands, but they have a few elements from each. With the first track „Medicate? you
hear the dual singers, one singing and one rapping, over a heavy Korn like beat, but the album does not
continue this way. The third track “Reaching Further” , my admitted favorite, takes a different turn with a
melodic beginning, a little rapping, and a powerful catchy chorus. The rapping is not over powering, as it can
be on song songs of this nature, it is just a little atmosphere over this heavy Tool like anthem.
The variation in style between each song kept me listening attentively waiting to see what Zeromind would
do next and I was pleasantly surprised every time. They have a strong rhythm section and catchy melodies
overall, no matter what style they choose, which is what really determines a good band. Producer Sylvia
Massy?s touch is evident on the „Ground Zero EP?. Massy has produced albums for many bands such as
Tool, Rage Against The Machine and System of a Down. The recording is excellent, the mix is great, and the songs are well structured.
Massy?s production helped emphasized the epic heaviness and grooving bass that this band is capable of. “

"Q&A with producer/engineer Dave Shiffman"

Los Angeles, CA (www.zeromind.com) - Zeromind is currently hard at work at LA's Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, CA. with producer/engineer Dave Schiffman (Nine Inch Nails, System of a Down, Audioslave). Schiffman is working with the band producing new tracks for the band's upcoming all-new album, "What's in Your Mind.' The U.S. release date is set for September 5, 2006 on Powerslave Records.

Dave Schiffman Tech notes: What do you like about Paramount? THE DRUM ROOM IS LIVE BUT VERY CONTROLLED. WE WERE ABLE TO GET A BIG PUNCHY SOUND WITHOUT THE DRUMS GETING LOST IN THE ROOM

What was the Type and make of board? WE MONITORED THROUGH AN SSL J SERIES BUT I USED ALL OLD NEVE MIC PRES PLUGGED DIRECTLY INTO PROTOOLS. THE CONSOLE WAS STRICTLY FOR PLAYBACK

The way you recorded the drums for the band was all new to them. What type of microphones did you use and what did you utilize in the board to get that great drum sound? MY DRUM SET-UP IS PRETTY SRAIGHT AHEAD. A MIC ON THE FRONT OF THE BASS DRUM (FET47) AND INSIDE(421) ON TOP OF THE SNARE(SM57) AND THE BOTTOM(441). EACH TOM IS INVIDUALLY MIC'D(421) AS WELL AS 2 SETS OF OVERHEADS NEAR(67S) AND FAR(COLES) AND VARIOUS AMBIENCE MICS(DPA,U47) AROUND THE ROOM. I TEND TO DO ALOT OF BLENDING OF MICS RATHER THAN GO FOR THE EQ.

What Type and make of mic(s) were utilized for vocals? ON CHRIS I USED AN SM-7 THOURGH A NEVE MIC PRE WITH A DISTRESSOR FOR COMPRESSION AND ERIC AND LEO SANG ON A TUBE 47 THORUGH A NEVE MIC PRE WITH AN 1176 FOR COMPRESSION AGAIN VERY LITTLE EQ USED ON EITHER

Any special set-up for recording guitars and bass.... unique mics or special tools used in the process? AGAIN- PRETTY STRAIGHT FOREWARD- A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT MICS ON THE CABINET (SM57. SENN 409) THORUGH NEVE MIC PRES AND A LITTLE COMPRESSION WITH HEAVY SOUNDS THEY KIND OF COMPRESS THEMSELVES.

Any thoughts on the sound of the band. VERY AGGRESSIVE BUT MELODIC AT THE SAME TIME THEY HAVE A GOOD SENSE OF A HOOK AND CHORUS MELODIES.

Any new gadgets that would be interesting to gear heads out there? NOTHING NEW. MICS, MIC PRES, COMPRESSORS THEY DON;T MAKE THEM LIKE THEY USED TO. - LOL - Top 40-charts.com

Bio

Zeromind's magnetism is hard to resist. Just ask production legend Dave Schiffman (System of a Down, Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash) who recently finished producing the band's new album, "What's in Your Mind." A six-piece heavy rock band with twin vocals from San Francisco has the talent, popularity and drive to be alongside megastars. Megastars, or mega-groups, for that matter, do have adequate reasons to feel threatened by Zeromind's success, as a 20-year-old legendary rock band, which we will leave nameless, was rejected by a producer who later was ecstatic to work with the talented Zeromind. Wherever Zeromind travels, success follows, as we reflect on their performances over the last few years alongside Megadeth, Slayer, Dio, Anthrax, Flyleaf, Ministry, Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage, Bloodsimple, Unearthed, Lamb of God, Mastadon, In Flames, Napalm Death, and many more. In fact, Zeromind's cutting edge sound and over-the-top performance at the Loudpark Festival (in Tokyo, Japan) inspired MTV Japan to rotate their music video for "Wish It Away," a fusion of heavy rock and smooth vocals against a melodic backdrop. Of course, MTV America has expressed interest, as well. An album full of melodic and energetic beats, "What's in Your Mind" is comparable to ultra-successful releases by Korn, Linkin Park, System of a Down and the Deftones. With fourteen addictive songs (the kind you put on repeat for weeks on end but you don't get sick of), "What's in Your Mind" is guaranteed to be a hit among fans, and a must-have among new listeners.
