"Zing Experience "Voices From Haiti""

The venue was packed, but Kathy and I managed to get a good table. I had a perfect view of the back of Paul Beaubrun’s head–his hair falls just above his waist. The trio filled the house with a soul-rocking sound. - Katia Ulysse

"Zing Experience Bringing a Vocals/Guitar Only Track to Rock Band Network!"

There are people who play guitar on Rock Band. There are people who sing. There are people who like to do both at the same time. Very few songs lend themselves well to the third type of player, and we’re glad to throw one more into the mix with this beautiful acoustic piece, “Faster Than a Bullet” from New York/Haiti band Zing Experience!

“The term “Zing” is defined as a spirit from the sea with African and native Indian roots. The feeling that Zing Experience generates has been described as one that inspires and transcends this world. Zing Experience leaves you with a desire for more — not only for more music, but also for a better understanding of this world — and the realization that the possibilities are limitless.” – Zing Experience Bio

Zing Experience draw influences from artists as diverse as Boukman Eksperyans, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Prince and Lenny Kravitz. They mix Haitian roots with rock to create soulful music to make your day better. The track we’re bringing to Rock Band, “Faster Than a Bullet,” is performed by band leader Paul Beaubrun, who mixes acoustic chords with a strong vocal performance and even throws in a small solo at the end. It’s a perfect track for “voxtar” players!

Check out a preview of “Faster Than a Bullet” below, and visit these websites to learn more about Zing Experience.

"Voodoo Taxi"

A week later, back in New Zealand, I’d managed to track down a man called Paul Beaubrun of the Haitian band Zing Experience, part of a new generation of Racine artists pushing the sound beyond Haiti and to the world. The son of Theodore “Lolo” Beaubrun – lead singer of Boukman Eksperyans – Racine has been a part of Paul’s life all his life and speaking from his current base of New York. - tonspur.tv/blog/auckland/voodoo-taxi/

"Paul Beaubrun on his Zing Experience"

Paul Beaubrun heads the reggae-roots band Zing Experience. The son of two musicians/performers—Theodore “Lòlò” Beabrun Jr. and Mimerose “Manzè” Pierre Beaubrun of the legendary, controversial Grammy-nominated band Boukman Eksperyans—the young Beaubrun grew up with drum beats, guitar riffs and bamboo trumpets in the background.

Beaubrun is also the grandson of Theodore Beaubrun, a legendary theater and TV actor in Haiti and the pioneer of the Haitian sit-com. Being the seed of such a rich entertainment legacy, it isn’t surprising that he decided to follow down the entertainment path his parents and grandparents took decades before he was born. He is a singer-songwriter, producer, guitarist and plays the drums as well.

Zing Experience has released its debut album Project Haiti on the Peacetones label. The 10-track album leans towards hip-hop as much as it has reggae-roots tendencies. The band recently traveled to California for a mini-tour, and plans appearances and performances in Boston, New York, Norway and Haiti. - kreyolicious.com

"A Night with Zing"

“In one word, describe Zing Experience and what the band means to you.” That was the question my partner Natalia and I asked fans who came to see Zing perform during their album release party at Webster Hall, a couple of weeks ago. The answers were all very different and special in their own way. “Roots,” said Regine, founder of Haiti Cultural Exchange and long time supporter of Zing Experience and the Beaubrun family. “Unique,” added an older gentleman. “Original” […]

"MUSIC HAITI"

This is the second in HCX’s Mizik Ayiti (Music Haiti) series that kicked off mid-June with “son of a Boukman” Paul Beaubrun and Zing Experience at Putnam Plaza on Fulton Street.

In 2004, the turmoil in Haiti disrupted the school calendar and Paul Beaubrun, found himself in the U.S. finishing the school year. He graduated from Prospect Heights High School.

The youngest of four children of Manze and Lola Beaubrun, founding members of the esteemed racine (roots) band Boukman Eksperyans, Paul grew up in the band’s sphere. It was “like going to music school,” he says, while naming all of the musicians in that circle he was exposed to: Eddy Francois, Bonga, and Zilibo.

Internationally performing and Grammy nominated Boukman Eksperyans was one of the early bands that mixed traditional vodou songs and rhythms with rock music. The band also incorporates folk melodies into their repertoire in addition to original music with very political lyrics. (The band fled the country in the early 90s because of their political stand.) So much of their songs are “classics” for Haitians that when the band is performing the audience sings all the lyrics.

Paul, who is the image of his father – like turning the clock back 30 years – said, “I think I really look like him and we have similar personalities and similarities in how we see life spiritually. My dad is my hero, I really look up to him.”

He doesn’t leave out his mom. “My mom is everything, she’s the backbone and conscience of the family. “

That being said, the father and son each have their own generation’s musical inspirations. Paul reflects, ”I’ve learned a lot from them and I’ve learned a lot without them.” Adding, “I love the blues, reggae, too, and roots. It’s all African, so it’s easy. You eat rice, white rice, yellow rice, and red rice. It all rice.”

Paul founded Zing Experience with his wife, dancer Cynthia Casasola who he met at an Schomburg Library event. The band debuted in 2006 and since has performed internationally.

In 2011, Paul and Cynthia were artists-in-residence in Montreal, sponsored by UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries–a program to promote creation among young artists from developing countries and Montreal creators. For three months, the family, which includes Kai (son, now four) and Keila (daughter, now two), lived in an artist’s compound collaborating with local musicians. Their stay culminated when Zing Experience headlined the May 2011 Musique Multi Montreal festival.

On June 21, under a brutal sun in Brooklyn– one of the hottest days of the year, Zing Experience: Paul Beaubrun on guitar and voice, Cynthia Casasola (song and stylized dance), and Peter Barr on drums, performed at Putnam Plaza on Fulton St.

Neighbors, friends of HCX, and fans of the band sought shade, while enjoying the Haitian roots, reggae, and rock sounds, dancing when the air began to cool. “This feels like Haiti,” a hydrating audience member remarked as the heat glimmered off the pavement.

Ignoring the heat, Regine Roumain, stalwart director of Haiti Cultural Exchange joyfully led line dances with the children. “We can’t predict the weather,” she said, philosophically.

"Zing Experience headlined at the Brooklyn Museum"

As the crowd of over 500 people began to grow larger and move in closer to the middle, it became evident who everyone was waiting for. The audience seemed to have held their breath as dancer and singer Cynthia Casasola of Zing Experience made her way through the crowd and onto the stage, swaying lightly to the reggae beat of their opening number. The crowd was already entranced as Paul Beaubrun stepped up to the mike with his guitar. The sounds and interactions of Zing Experience brought a lighthearted mood amongst onlookers, bringing dancers onto the stage to accompany Cynthia in her rhythmic movements, while encouraging the audience to clap along. With their upbeat tempo and uplifting message, it became impossible to sit still during their performance. People moved, shouted, danced and laughed- a fun way to conclude a relaxing summer evening with family and friends.

"Zing Experience - Voodoo Rock punch."

Voodoo Rock with dreads - my new favorite band from Haiti

The Haitian band Zing Experience, who has never played in Europe before, visited the Cultural Centre as the last concert on Saturday in Tromsø Latin festival, No Siesta, Fiesta. Front figure Paul Beaubrun, also known as Zing, shall according to their Haitian fans hold Zing spirit, a spirit from the sea that uplifts people and get them to embrace both the past and look to the future with hope, according to their myspace page. http://www. myspace.com / zingexperience

There was a lot of expectations I showed up at the workshop this evening. There was also a well-filled hall of the Culture of hopeful concert-goers who were to witness the concert. When the band came on stage, they were able to quickly carried away the audience, who danced and sang along, even though most certainly not be able to text. The concert was both mysterious, catchy, fun and tough, which the audience clearly appreciated. The whole band had charisma and stage charm in spades. Cynthia Cassola choir and danced to, and frontman Paul Beaubrun and the rest of the band almost fought to captivate the audience.

They are quite a bit ambitious either, where they claim that they will not only create great music, but also give people a better understanding of the world and the endless possibilities that exist. It certainly did for the public's reaction to judge.

"Music for Haiti"

When he started to speak, Paul Beaubrun became very emotional. He promised that it wouldn’t happen again (not that it bothered anyone), and channeled that emotion into his music. Between the reggae and creole melodies Beaubrun would often bellow out a defiant “ayibobo!”, roughly translated as “hallelujah” or “blessed.” The crowd would enthusiastically respond, and then the show would go on. - David Greenky

"Zing Experience"

But there is always something that makes a stronger impression, and this time it was the band from Haiti, Zing Experience that was the best concert experience I've had in a long time. They describe their music as a mix of rock, reggae and voodoo rhythms. I must admit that I was a bit doubtful, but I do not regret one second. The concert was simply amazing! - Ragnas Verden

"ZING EXPERIENCE Will shock the world"

The band is a mixture of rock n' Roll, racine and reggae. I predict this guy to be the next worldwide superstar of the HMI cause is music (although he sings as well in english as in creole) has international apeal and will burst accross boderlines. - KOMPA! MaGAZINE

"Zing Experience Brought Music Rasinn to Norway"

In today’s Haitian music scene, it is not common to hear Music Rasinn on the radio like before. But few young groups have been playing and performing overseas recently. The success of Zing Experience has been triggered by the popularity of certain artists or their backgrounds. Zing Experience, a band that came from Boukman Eksperyans, has gained rapidly an international popularity and is being recognized as a new symbol of Music Rasinn. The band made history by placing higher in the World Music charts in Norway and Switzerland than any foreign language record had previously done so.

"Roaring success with the voodoo-rock."

"Peace," spiritual preacher (band) leader, songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Paul Beaubrun aka Zing. Zing, if the power apparently lies in the young dreads-behodede guitarist on stage, is a kind of spirit in Haiti is known to possess the power to inspire, guide and enjoy other people, on their way to a higher meaning.

So far, so good. "Love," continues Zing, and is perhaps the first since Bob Marley getting away with it. "Unity!". "Yeees," screams the audience, wiggling and dancing in pure delight. The workshop is filled with intense voodoo rhythms, reggae riff, American-inspired rock and other snacks, all in an explosive mix, which detonated in the energetic audience. - Nordlys. No

Bio

The band Zing Experience fuzes Haitian Roots, Rock and Reggae to create a soulful sound, with influences from artists as diverse as Boukman Eksperyans, Fela Kuti, Sade, Angelique Kidjo, Emeline Michel, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Marley.

Zing Experience made its New York City debut on September 30, 2006 at Sugar Bar, the legendary music venue of 70s icons Ashford and Simpson. The band packed the house and created an instant following of loyal supporters. That momentous night opened the door for Zing Experience to deliver its positive message to embrace ones roots, spirituality, and live a better day, as reflected in one of the bands most popular songs, Take Me Away.

Since their debut, Zing Experience has gained international and commercial appeal and has performed in Europe, the Caribbean, South America, Canada and the U.S, making them one of the few bands out of Haiti that has been able to garner worldwide success. In March 2009, they headlined the annual No Siesta, Fiesta Festival in Norway, where they received rave reviews from the Norwegian press and where they also recorded their first full length album, Project Haiti in 2010. Their music has been used in three internationally distributed films, The Road to Fondwa, Une Memoire Vodou, and Bondye Bon.

In February 2011, Zing Experience received the prestigious Unesco-Aschberg Artist in Residency Scholarship in Montreal, Canada where they headlined the annual Musique Multi-Montreal Festival.

In November 2012, they signed with like-minded, socially conscious, record label, PeaceTones, with whom they distributed their debut album, Project Haiti. The release of the album was celebrated enthusiastically with a full audience at NYCs renown Webster Hall. Since the release, the band continues to promote both the album and their message throughout the U.S. They most recently toured this summer in California and headlined Target First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum on August 3rd, 2013 for thousands of high-spirited fans.

Paul Beaubrun, the groups co-founder, lead singer/songwriter and guitarist, is said to embody the Zing spirit a captivating energy and ability to uplift people, to embrace ones past while living in the present moment and looking forward to the future with hope and determination. Paul comes from an eminent and treasured Haitian family of entertainers and is the grandson of Haitis beloved actor/comedian, Theodore Beaubrun aka Languichatte Debordus, and is also the youngest son of Grammy nominated Lolo and Manze Beaubrun, lead singers and founders of Boukman Eksperyans, Haitis most influential, popular and revolutionary band. Pauls musical vision was shaped by his family, as he performed alongside them all over the world from the Caribbean, the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Pauls musical upbringing and passion for his roots fuels the core of the powerful and unique sound of Zing Experience.

Cynthia Casasola, co-founder, singer and dancer for Zing Experience, contributes her sweet, angelic voice, echoing and reinforcing the bands message of love, positivity and hope for the future. She offers the perfect complement to Pauls sound, creating unforgettable harmonies both vocally, and in their collaborative writing efforts. The dance theatrics that she leads during their live performances combines a variety of disciplines including her native Filipino as well as Haitian, African, Jazz and Modern, and are essential in delivering the influential and unifying message that Zing brings.

Zing is defined as a spirit from the water with African and native Indian roots. The feeling that Zing Experience generates has been described as one that inspires and transcends this world. Zing Experience has an exciting and captivating live performance that causes you to dance, laugh, cry, and learn. They leave you with a desire for more not only for more music, but also for a better understanding of this world and the realization that the possibilities are limitless.
