"ZIZ Shoots To The Top With Body Rock"

By Damon C. Williams
williadc@phillynews.com

Fat Joe, The late Big Pun, Pit Bull.
And Ziz?
Ziz.The Brooklyn, N.Y.-bred Latin emcee who came to philly five years ago,
is making serious noise with "Body Rock (Ya'll)" the first
sure-shot single of his forth-coming album, "Man-Brook-Phil".
Ziz's lead single incorporates
spanish horns and an uptempo
rhythm that Ziz exploits with both spanish and english lyrics. The result
is a surprisingly clean set.

"I wrote ['Body Rock'] before we had the beat; it was like a whole
other level with that" song, Ziz said recently. "I was thinking latin, making people move."
Ziz, doesn't mind the inevitable comparisons to the laitn emcees who have paved the way;
for him, that speaks directly to his talent.

"Fat Joe came from the underground,"Ziz said of the oft-repeated comparisons. "He sold his mixtapes,
performed at 125th street. He paved the way for Hispanic rappers, but the way I look at it,
I have been perfecting my craft for years now."

The B-sides to "Body Rock" provide a glimpse of Ziz's versatility. While the lead single has a distinct
Latin feel, the other cuts offer straight Hip-Hop. On "Man-Brook-Phil"',
We find Ziz sharing the lyrical duties with teammate MK. Lucinda Estrada shows off her skills on
"Pen and Paper".

" Lucinda got the smooth soul, While MK is a scientist who walks you through songs," Ziz said of
His Groovement Records(WWW.Groovement-Records.com) squad.
All things considered, Ziz presents a solid combination of style, lyrics, breath control and substance.
"I want to known as Ziz, That guy who came with the different flows," said Ziz.

Ziz's new album will be released early 2005. Grab a preview at his site, WWW.Zizoffdahook.com
But for now?
"I want people to think,'Damn, This guy has worked so hard to be different, to put himself aside,' "
Ziz said. "I want them to think, 'His music speaks for him.' " *

Bio

Latino Philadelphia based hip-hop artist ZIZ, was born and raised on the tough of streets of New York City’s Lower East Side and Brownsville. Growing up ZIZ was influenced and inspired by his older brother’s Run-DMC and LL Cool J records.
ZIZ has spent years working towards perfecting his craft; he’s traveled all the way from rapping on the street, to house parties, the Apollo Theatre Unity Jam and finally to Philadelphia’s clubs. In 2002 ZIZ created Groovement Records, an independent record company, for which he hopes to release not only his material, but also music from other artists in the Philadelphia area.
ZIZ differentiates himself from most commercial Hip-Hop in that his music concentrates on everyday life, humor, love, romance and having fun, while still staying true to the roots of Hip-Hop. Stay tuned for the album and a whole new groove.
