"ZOLO DEBUTS UPBEAT MUSIC VIDEO FOR ‘BRAND NEW"

Toronto-based artist Zolo is bringing his own fresh, unique vibe with his latest single “Brand New.”
An intriguing mix of hip-hop and electronic music, amplified by energetic trombone and trumpet notes, it’s an easy club hit and one you’ll want to blast this summer.
The music video, which we’re premiering right here today, was shot with Zolo’s current home city as the backdrop, and I was instantly reminded of Chris Brown’s “Yeah 3X” and Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” with the background dancers and high energy–it manages to capture an old-school attitude the way the latter does, but more subtly.
Zolo, a UK native, debuted as a solo artist in 2012 with a mixtape after spending some brief time with a band. He followed that with his first EP, Lost, in 2013. He’s no stranger to the club charts in his home country–his single “Feel It” gained recognition in the top 20, and he’s collaborated with several DJs–Dance Floor Junkies, Young Wolf Hatchlings, to name a couple.
As is obvious with tracks like “Brand New,” he draws from multiple genres when creating his music. It’s certainly a stand-out, and appropriate considering he was born in the UK, raised in NY, and now lives in Canada. Nothing feeds creativity quite like such a combination of experiences and environments.

"Canadian Pop Sensation, Zolo Releases Poppin’ New Single “Brand New”"

Toronto by way of London pop singer Zolo announces the release of “Brand New”. “Brand New” is the first single off of his upcoming EP, Mindless Thoughts, which looks to drop mid July.
“Brand New” is a track rooted in happiness. It is that feeling you get when someone or something new comes into your life and shakes it up for the better. Much like the cutting edge fashion that Zolo stands for, “Brand New” is a fresh take on modern day pop music. Mixing a retro vibe with a touch of class,”Brand New” explores Zolo’s new pop-oriented sound.
Linking up with the production team behind Fall Out Boy’s “Uma Thurman”, Mindless Thoughts looks to be the EP of the summer. Be sure to check out “Brand New” and stay tuned for more from Z - RJ Frometa

"Indie Week :: Zolo"

Before Zolo even took the stage at Tota Lounge for Indie Week, I was impressed with his set, which included a DJ and a live drummer. I absolutely loved his outright attempt at doing something different – and it paid off in spades.

As with any single-person performances, it’s tough to keep the crowd visually entertained, regardless of how musically talented the artist is (and Zolo is plenty musically talented). The beauty of the drummer, though, was that he gave the audience something new to look at, pulling the performance from a mainly auditory one. The drummer was also amazingly talented, and the DJ maintained the perfect balance between hypeman and bona fide member of the group.

Musically, the DJ added a cool electro edge to the music, mixing the dizzy swirl of electronic music with the beat-heavy intensity of hip hop. The beats were also unique in that they sampled lots of popular music as well as some pop culture references, but changed it enough to make it new. The live drums, meanwhile, infused a more human touch – and they were insane: fast and thrilling, but not overpowering.

Zolo-3For Zolo himself, he had a mostly inward start on stage, but quickly broke free from any nerves. Soon enough, he was jumping around on stage, engaging the audience with his infectious passion. He had a wonderful cadence on the mic and was strong but not too aggressive.

The end of Zolo’s set was certainly the most memorable. It involved a foam-headed mascot who worked as a typical hypeman. It gave the audience something to gawk at and certainly engaged the crowd. But, I’m glad to report that it absolutely didn’t take from the music. - RazMataz Magazine

"Zolo: From Electro-pop DJ to Artist"

Zolo, originally from the UK but now residing in Toronto, is creating electrifying music, both for himself and his growing fan base--those who are addicted to his unique electro-pop sound.

Zolo is a unique artist, not only in his music style, but also in the way that he went about pursuing a career in music. Starting out as a DJ, Zolo took his inspiration from artists that he loves, such as The Beatles and Michael Jackson, and educated himself on the elements of sound. He used this influence while writing and producing his original songs.

By doing this, Zolo gave himself a head start into the music industry, and is now a well-established artist. Using his knowledge on the elements of sound and his unique ability to perceive and absorb vibes, he has emerged with a distinctive feel to his music, like in his songs “Vacating Love” and “XOXO.”

He has a strong love for performing live, feeling energy from the music and his audience; not much can bring his lively attitude down. But when he encounters frustration, he tells Faze what he does to regain focus. “I just go back to listening to artists I love,” he says. “You always got to bring it back to what you love doing.”

When he’s not working on his music career, he enjoys escaping the city for some time in nature, doing things like camping and fishing.

With his first EP released and now in popular demand, Zolo continues to focus on his passion with upcoming follow up music on his EP Lost and a new tour. “I have a bunch of shows coming up and a bunch of tour dates, but the biggest thing we’re putting together right now is actually a solo show. We haven’t confirmed a date yet, but it will most likely be at The Opera House [in Toronto].”

To those interest in pursuing music as a career, he passes on some advice through Faze. “Just think about what’s true, because at the end of the day, people might not believe in you, but believe in yourself and eventually the world will too.” - Lauren Song

"New release for Brampton dance/pop musician Zolo"

BRAMPTON— Brampton resident and emerging DJ Zolo is set to release his second dance tape, entitled Lost, on May 28.

Zolo grew up in England and was influenced by the eclectic mix of the British music scene. These early influences can be heard in his music today, which samples from electronica, hip hop and pop, just to name a few.

The artist considers his new compilation, Lost, to be his formal introduction. This is “who I am”, he told The Brampton Guardian.

Lost is the follow-up to Zolo’s first compilation, Dance-Tape, which was released in 2012. Like his first compilation, Lost incorporates elements of electro, hip hop and pop music. It also showcases his colourful style and outgoing personality, said Liz Reid of Strut Entertainment.

Zolo’s upcoming radio single, Vacating Love, celebrates what he calls the freedom to “be yourself”.

According to Reid, the performer’s profile is on the rise. The Canadian Urban Music Conference has called him “one to watch in 2013”. He has sampled tracks from the Black Eyed Peas and LMFAO, and the music video for Vacating Love is currently in rotation on Much Music. His social media status is also on the rise— his YouTube channel currently has over a million views. He also has 50,000 Twitter followers and has 15,000 fans on Facebook.
