Asistir a un concierto en la Sala Morocco, uno de los míticos lugares de la movida madrileña, es como regresar a aquellos tiempos en que ir a un concierto de rock tenía un algo de aventura y esperabas el comienzo del mismo con emoción desde días antes. Quizá sea porque uno se ha acostumbrado demasiado a los conciertos en directo o quizá porque el público es distinto o vaya usted a saber por qué, el caso es que han perdido un poco ese hálito de magia que antes tenían. Algo, no obstante, de ese sentimiento resurgió en el interior de este redactor en la presentación del primer disco de Zoobazar, titulado Uno. Incluso hasta volvió a revivir ese sonido deliciosamente sucio que los caracterizaba.

Porque en su esencia, en su poder rítmico y su energía y vitalidad, lo que hicieron Zoobazar fue un concierto de rock. De buen rock, además; a veces hasta de jazz rock. La seca y poderosa pegada de la batería de Pablo Martín y el bajo contundente y efectivo de Héctor Tellini no dejaban lugar a dudas. Inconmensurables. La parte “étnica”, que no acústica la pusieron otros dos grandes músicos: Diego Galaz, violín y mandolina y Amir-John Haddad, laúd y saz. Los cuatro son jóvenes y experimentados en muchas lides musicales; sería largo y demasiado prolijo detallar todos los grupos y músicos con los que han tocado. Baste decir que el violinista forma parte de La Musgaña, que Pablo Martín toca en la banda de Eliseo Parra o el laudista alemán estuvo en los tiempos de Radio Tarifa. Ahí es nada. Son virtuosos y con esos mimbres bien se pueden hacer estos cestos. Les acompañó en varios temas otro violinista, Raúl Márquez, de Valladolid. Un supergrupo, vamos.

Zoobazar es un grupo de rock, sí, pero de rock árabe, sobre todo. Sus influencias musicales cabalgan desde el Oriente Medio hasta el Norte de África, y en ocasiones se paran a tomar aire en los Balcanes. Rock mediterráneo, en suma.
Se dice que Madrid es una ciudad abierta y cosmopolita donde todo aquel que llega es inmediatamente bien recibido. Sin duda. Pero también cualquier música que llega se queda sin remedio; Madrid es multiétnico por naturaleza pero si hubiera que definir cuál es su música de raíz, habría que concluir que es el rock, el rock urbano para más señas.

Y eso es lo que hicieron la otra noche Zoobazar: rock árabe urbano.

recorded  together with the renowned Spanish producer Carlos Raya (M-Clan, Fito y Fitipaldis, Quique Gonzlez, Sangre Azul).

UNO has been nominated at the IMAs Independent Music Awards USA in 2012 in the category for Best World Beat Album and in Best Song World Traditional with their Balkan song Fun Faria.

UNO has been elected by the Spanish National Radio Mundofonias (RNE worldwide channel), Tarataa (RNE3), Discopolis (RNE3), Musicopolis and even by the World Music Central (USA) as one of their favorite releases of 2011.

They also have been honoured to appear with one of their songs Remember Tiki on the 2006 edition CD of MALAGA EUROFOLK.

Song appeared at the GPS (Girando por Salas) CD 2012.

What happens when we bring together the former oud player from Radio Tarifa, the violinist of La Musgaa, the drummer of La Shica & Eliseo Parra and the bass player of the rock group GN3?
The answer is ZOOBAZAR.

ZOOBAZAR is one of the finest World Music bands from Spain. Their music is highly creative, innovative and fresh and embraces a global vision. They are known for their great musicality, originality, maturity and ability of blending variousMediterranean traditional music styles like Iberian, Balkan, Greek, Turkish, Oriental, Middle Eastern, North African and even Indian folklore with western elements such as funk, rock or jazz. The band defines their style as Mediterranean World Music Fusion.

Arabic oud, Turkish saz, drums, percussions, violin and bass are the ingredients to create a very personal and unique sound with clear and catchy melodies interlaced with skilful and virtuous soloing based on strong and solid rhythmical patterns.

The band members have been part of the most prestigious Spanish world music artists such as Radio Tarifa, La Musgaa, Eliseo Parra, Javier Paxario, Mastretta, etc.
