"SoundOff's! first Semi-Finalist"

Smack in the center of all the action at MoPop sits the Sky Church, a vastly open space with toweringly tall ceilings and a giant screen that rivals the highest-end of movie theaters. Mesh, beige parasols float from the ceiling, and the tiles in the floor are interspersed with mini-exhibit shadowboxes. With something new to notice everywhere you look, Sky Church is a space that makes you feel like, well, the sky’s the limit. And it’s the perfect space for Sound Off!, MoPop’s annual battle of the bands for ages 21 and under.

Zoser
Opening the competition on Saturday was Zoser, a Seattle-via-Georgia acoustic singer-songwriter with a natural ability to command an audience. Stepping onstage with just his guitar and looper, Zoser’s songs were filled with fast-paced, intricate lyricism and full guitar chords. For his second tune, Zoser taught the crowd the pattern of his “oohs” and “ohs,” and everyone happily sang along. The kicker, though, was that when the second round of our part rolled around, everyone dove right in, without any prodding.

Having that much control of your audience is a skill that many established bands struggle with. It was truly impressive to witness Zoser’s leadership.

Between tunes, Zoser disarmed the audience with stories about his songwriting and about his dog running around in the snow that postponed the first round of semifinals. His charm comes from knowing exactly who he is: a kid from Georgia that loves Ed Sheeran and John Mayer. - Dans Tunes Seattle

"What Music Means to Seafair: The City of Music @ Seafair – Music Ambassador"

The Seattle Music Commission and Seafair, came together in 2016 to form a new partnership - City of Music @ Seafair. This partnership helps showcase the city's expansive array of musical talent by weaving music throughout Seafair events

A key aspect of this partnership included nominating and appointing a City of Music @ Seafair – Music Ambassador. This person would give voice to this dynamic partnership and represent Seattle City of Music to diverse audiences through several high-profile performances at key Seafair events throughout the summer festivities.

While in high school, Zoser was a gold medalist in the Seattle King County NAACP ACTSO competition where he went on to represent the branch at the National convention. He has been inducted into the Washington Young Laureates program and is currently an intern at Totem Star. At the beginning of this year, he was a semifinalist for SoundOff! 2019 and a member of [STG presents]More Music at The Moore. - Seafair Festival Operations & Communications

Bio

Zoser is a music bender with a soulful voice, thoughtful lyrics, and a six string guitar.

As an up and coming Seattle artist, Zoser began playing guitar when he was just 10-years-old. By the age of 12, he began penning his own lyrics and performing to local audiences in his hometown of Augusta, Georgia. Zo remained a fixture on the local music scene until relocating to Seattle in 2016.

Since making the big move from coast to coast, music has always grounded Zoser. Since relocating to Seattle, he was chosen as the Seafair Music Ambassador, a member of STG’s More Music at the Moore, and a semifinalist for SoundOff! 2019. Zoser was also a gold medalist in the Seattle King County NAACP ACTSO competition where he went on to represent the branch at the National convention in San Antonio.
In September, he released his first EP “Genesis” to show the youthful yet naive side of the young artist’s mind. With the help of his mentors, the group went to record the project at Benchmark Sound on Music Row.
Zoser's musical style can not be easily categorized. His music shifts seamlessly between pop, folk, and hip hop with influences ranging from Michael Kiwanuka to Mac Miller. A simple six-string, in Zo’s hands, transforms into a “beat box,” lending percussive bass to funky hip-hop rhymes.
By culling and synthesizing seemingly disparate musical forms and influences, Zoser has crafted a sound that is wholly and undeniably his own.The result is something spectacular to behold: a voice that conveys a world-weary ache and a bright optimism, and a sense of musicality that is both rhythmic and infectiously melodic. He is a singer, a storyteller and something of a revelation – not necessarily a soul singer but something more rare and precious – a singer with soul.
