Bio
Zuviri is an original Mexican-Canadian trio composed of songwriter Julio Zuviri (voice, guitar), Alissa Klug (a.k.a. Alissa Vox Raw) (Backing vocals, percussion) and Carlin Joie Belof (keytar).
Born in Tampico, Mexico, Julio began writing songs at 15 years of age. Having spent many years on a ship in the Pacific, many of Julio's songs were borne from countless hours staring at the sea, hearing and feeling nothing but its rhythms.
The Zuviri family has taken many forms in the last year and has included a number of members, but at its core has always been the trio between Julio, Alissa and Carlin. The three met on the local Toronto music scene, Alissa being a solo performance artist who creates rich tapestries of sound through vocal and instrumental loops, and Carlin, being a singer/songwriter who performs her often somewhat controversial and very in-your-face tunes on piano and guitar.
The sounds that this trio began to create soon began to take on a life of its own, with Carlin's haunting synth lines merging with Julio's dark and rich melodies, and Alissa's percussive pulse built with cajón, djembe, floor toms or drum machines giving the music its pulse that emulates those distant sounds of the waves.
