Bio

Born in a storage locker near the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Zvoov is an instrumental trio with a unique take on math and post rock. They combine raw guitars and careening rhythms with moments of uneasy melodic calm, woven together by an Escher-like sense of time and meter. Listeners can hear influences as varied as krautrock, grunge, post-rock, math, stoner, and jazz.

Made up of Eric Hielscher on guitar, Arthur Meacham on fretless bass, and John Swank on drums, Zvoov released the Everbrown EP in 2011, toured the midwest and eastern U.S. in January 2012, and has just recorded its first full-length album with Colin Marston at Menegroth: The Thousand Caves. Entitled Planned Obsolescence, the CD is to be released by the German label Oxide Tones. To support the CD, the band will embark on a five week, twenty-seven date tour of the U.S. in July and August.

In addition to its own musical pursuits, Zvoov has sought to foster the instrumental music scene around New York. Primarily, this has been through the annual Night Wears A Sombrero instrumental rock fest, a daylong showcase featuring some of the best in math, experimental, and post-rock. This year, the festival will be held on July 1 at the Littlefield performance and art space in Brooklyn, NY, and will feature 10 bands from New York and the Northeast.

Meaning “housefly” in Hebrew, Zvoov has one syllable and is pronounced the way it is spelled.
