My name is Joshua Humphrey and my stage name is "ZZZSomnus"
I started as "Slice" until I realized there was no point in it. It was not creative at all, I made it up on the spot. So I went for something with meaning and that is when I became known as "Somnus" which is the Roman god of sleep. Yes I know for some people that may sound crazy and no I don't really make religious music. So, if I ever want to not seem completely mysterious I tell people I came up with it because it is Latin for "Sleep" which is true.
Later, I realized there was still an issue. There were some old bands named Somnus, there was a movie named it, and there was even a song from a game called Somnus. So I needed something more marketable. That's when I added the three Zs which also represent sleep, and now when you type in my stage name you actually can find me.
You're probably wondering what's with all this sleep stuff. Well what I mean is, music that means a lot to you or you really like gives you a slight feeling of unconsciousness, it's your escape as some people call it. That's the type of music I want to make. Music that will take you out of your reality and give you peace for at least a couple minutes per song. And of course I want to make music that gives you joy and ignites the spark inside you. But peace of mind is a big part of this.
