Bio

Brazilian jazz seems to be the ‘new, old in-thing’ lately, but Canta Brasil, a Columbus Ohio, -based ensemble has been in the game for more than 40 combined years and keeps perfecting the sound with each new record they arrange.  Canta Brasil has grown into one of the most intriguing and influential Brazilian jazz bands in the last decade. They have helped to discover a new genre’ of musicians that thrive on the essence of experimentation that once defined Brazilian jazz.  Canta Brasil has kept bodies on the dance floor with Brazilian groves while turning heads with their new synth tones, original harmonies and thought provoking lyrics. Canta Brasil’s melodic tones are performed in both Portuguese and English languages, which lends to the beat of their diverse following.

This unique Brazilian jazz band has enriched their musical experience and learning from true legends of the jazz scene, by performing popular tunes from Brazilian legends such as Djavan, Chico Pinheiro and Chick Corea.  Canta Brasil also performs American style compositions with the Brazilian rhythms of George Duke and Brazilian Love Affair.  This band’s music is contagious and the rhythmic tones will immediately captivate your soul.   Canta Brasil – Danny A. Aguiar, Tia Harris-Roseboro, Erik Augis, Stan Smith and Jeff Bass are the musicians that create the sounds that everyone has grown to love.

The name Danny A. Aguiar is synonymous with Brazilian groves.  He is the founder and core member -drummer of Canta Brasil and has spent the last 35 years immersed in perfecting the emotions of Brazilian jazz.  He stands out as one of the truly great talents on the Brazilian scene, and is recognized as one of Brazil’s leading personalities and interpreters.  Danny’s experience has given him a great insight into the elements needed to make the music move the people.  Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, he grew up in a family of Bossa Nova visionaries – his mother, a world renowned songstress and lyricist and father, a singer and songwriter.  Danny’s work as a performer surpasses traditional limits around musical styles, offering firm roots in Brazilian jazz, cultured heritage in world music, and an enlightened approach to new music.

In the Spring of 2012, Danny released his springboard CD entitled “Fim Do Ciclo”, meaning “End of Cycle”.  Canta Brasil performs compositions from his CD including “My Brain", “Fiesta Biana” and “Melencia” (written by Jota Moraes).
