"[LISTEN] Damocles - Forms on the Wall"

We got our first taste of Atlanta producer Damocles last November when we hyped his hip-hop leaning instrumental "At My Window."

"Forms on the Wall" is the first mastered track off of the upcoming Damocles release, Echolalia, according to SoundCloud. Damocles told me via email that Echolalia is a "much dancier and groovier record" than what we've come to expect from the Georgia-based artist. Sounds good to me. - indieshuffle

"Damocles - Forms on the Wall"

ATL-based homie Damocles (found Damoclesthrone) has his newest LP entitled ‘Echolalia’ out on 9/16/2014. Known for releasing concept albums, Damocles most likely has something cooked up for the conceptual idea behind ‘Echolalia’. The beautifully done artwork suggests a vibrant natural beauty packaged within the album. The first single ‘Forms On The Wall’ is a happily flowing water-themed track. A mellow tune characterized by its laid back drums and brightly positive sounding lead synths. If its a sunny day where you are- open up your windows and smile.

"Damocles Echolalia Album Review"

Damocles(Ben Hopkins) is an electronic music producer out of Atlanta and Echolalia is his latest LP. It’s an album that was released in September of last year and shows lots of influences from video game soundtracks to ambient music and lots in between. Ben continues to a show a marked improvement with each new release and he’s definitely sharp on this one.
For one I have to commend Ben for having well produced tracks from beginning to end. The sound of this album is very good. I love the tracks that have a slight chiptune edge to them(not in sound but style) toward the beginning of the album. Cave Diving is a definite favorite, it’s a very layered track that progresses very well and has that whimsical feel to it. Damocles' last full length effort sounds a little more minimal and repetitious in comparison. This one however feels a little broader and slightly sonically spontaneous. Breathing has a great melody under these nice electronic sounds and some weird warped ones in the background that give the track a slightly odd feel. As Much As We Can really has a great synth groove through it and a high energy feel to it. The album ends with the superb Push Through a track that’s built slowly with ambient atmospherics then with built up with a great synths grooves and buzzing electronics. Upon listening to this album I was slightly weary of the length of it but it’s very much quality controlled, nothing hit me as filler.
Echolalia is a fifteen track album full of instrumentals that are cohesive and varied at the same time. Damocles really took this album and created something worth sitting down with and getting lost in.The album is essentially the soundtrack to closing your eyes and going on adventure in your mind as you let the sounds immerse you. Great electronic albums especially ones that are ambient in nature are able to do that. Immerse you in the sound and draw thoughts and emotions out of you. That’s definitely what I got from this album and what I believe Ben was attempting to achieve on this album and it’s well executed.
