DC "Get Money".... It's That Simple
One would think that two common words such as “get money” would not be enough of a mantra to carry you around the world seeking fame and fortune, especially in today’s times of “Forbes Hip Hop Cash Kings” urban lifestyle and music, leading the way of pop culture. But for Darrell Crenshaw, it was all he needed to hear and see. When growing up away from major cities like New York or Atlanta, your only influences is what you see on BET or MTV. But is that enough to take a small city like Little Rock, Arkansas and put it on your back and say I’m going to be the one to make people know we’re here? To say that “we matter too”? Before I met Darrell “DC” Crenshaw, my cynical perspective on the music industry and the hip hop game, after 28 yrs, I would say that, an individual, has a very slim chance, in an already crowded race of a “dog eat dog” world of hip hop gladiators. But two years ago, I meet this young man through his attorney and one of my respected “connects” on the ATL music scene, Atty.Thomas Reynolds. At first, it was just another opportunity to gain another client and see if I can outdo myself with another accomplishment, by providing quality advice and guidance to a new artist with a budget. But if I gave DC and his momager, Ivy, any advice about this business, they may have used 60% and the rest were mostly of their own ideas on “what should work” if this was an honest game and the deck wasn’t stacked against you. The game don’t play fair, as they both learned. But DC and Ivy had a little help from God and a legion of angels. They paid for the knowledge they’ve learned. And as I also learned, DC and his Get Money Team had already conquered a few obstacles on their own, by doing it their way. It may cost a little extra because you have to pay to play the game and you pay for mistakes too, doing it that way but nevertheless, they learned. DC’s musical talents and his grind have taken him from doing college tours with a mixed crowd of white and black fans, all over the country, clamoring for his music to the faraway lands of China, doing shows in Beijing. Major djs like DJ Smallz and his well established brand, “Southern Smoke” collaborated with DC and created a collective of original gems that kept the fuel replenished in a 2012 campaign that I, myself would have thought that they would give up after that campaign ended. Like so many of the people who crossed my path in my experience, they either run out of money or out of belief. But no, not DC. It was still “get money”. When I thought they were done in 2012, I get a call around the summer of 2013 that they were at it again and this time, the mantra “get money” is the title of a new single. And they had a collaboration with someone who I’ve worked with before and no matter what anybody say about this artist, the man known as Gucci Mane knew how to “get money”. He was the unsung hero of taking nothing and turning it into something, with all the odds against him. DC and Gucci Mane not only did the song and video together but also embarked on a tour arranged by DC and his momager, titled the “Dreams Become Reality Tour”. Again they did it their way.
This time, their formula worked. Major djs in Atlanta like Bigga Rankin and members of the Coalition DJs were all joining the efforts of this new MC, hailing from Arkansas, with 8 million views on World Star. Magazines like HipHopWeekly took notice in the last quarter of 2013 and said that DC was the “Next2Blow” and blogs like DirtySouthHipHop and HotNewHipHop started adding DC’s music and video offerings to their sites by demand from the people. So here we are, a new year, a new campaign. This time, the “Get Money Team” is pushing music, fashion and lifestyle teamed with his beautiful partner and fiance’, Stephanyi from YiMinx Couture. This time they take another commonly used phrase, “Turn Up” and use it when you think it’s been used enough and prove to me, that it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. And how many angels you got saying it with you. And if it didn’t know, now you know. DC is here to stay.

"Next To Blow"

I don’t want to let the streets over take me. Street hustling isn’t the way to support a family or my career! Fighting to keep the streets from
over taking me…it seems like music caught me in a major way! I find
musical and lyrical inspiration in everything I do nowadays. I eat,
sleep and breathe hip hop” - DC

Hip hop lyricist DC sets himself apart from other rappers as a ‘new
original’ with his smooth style, fluid structures and smart lyrics. DC
draws proven hip hop crowds while breaking through to new audiences
including women, tweens and adults.

DC’s passion to put Arkansas on the map in the hip-hop industry was
inflamed by the sudden and tragic death of his cousin and lifelong
rapping partner, Cyle Boykin (Yung Squady). The painful loss of the
young man DC viewed as his very own brother drove DC’s career commitment into high gear spawning tracks like “THA MOVEMENT,"
“BAD HABIT,” and “GET MONEY.” Drawing over 8 Million views on his most recent release "GET MONEY" on WorldStarHipHop.com.

DC has taken up the motto “I Am My Brother’s Keeper” because he plans
on taking care of Cyle’s son along with extended family.

Life hasn’t been easy for DC, with a Dad who left him at age seven,
stole his mom’s money and hung around only often enough to disappoint.
Still ‘it’s all good’ for DC who suggests, “when you grow up and all
your friends are dead or in jail, maybe the only rebellion left is
success.” DC never shook his mother’s favorite rap, “know the streets
and the books.” Today, DC slips between cultures working his way
through college (with a 3.8 GPA) while simultaneously drawing a
growing number of followers.

DC forms lyrics both poetic and gritty in a world that’s more than a
little bit busted up. His wit and versatility means DC can kick it in
the hood or speak truth to power at the Whitehouse. But his struggle
is universal, to afford to stay in college, care for his family and
live large his dreams.

A phenomena just waiting to burst out on the international market, a
mind haunted 24/7 by music, DC is ripe for filling venues to capacity
- poised and ready to catapult to the next level.
