Bio
Drummer Tim Stokes-Rees (a.k.a. El Blanco) and keyboardist Denis Schingh, form the Denis and El Blanco duo. They perform Denis’ original alt-jazz blending elements of modern jazz, funk, experimental, Spanish and other world music. Their repertoire also includes instrumental interpretations of rock music, mostly from the 1970s including hits by Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, and the Eagles, among others, as well as a few more recent pieces by artists like Moby and Radiohead. Tasteful and well-crafted arrangements, with occasional flashes of improvisation, are laid out over cool and textured beats influenced by hip-hop and electronica. The result is a thoroughly engaging sound that is both retro and modern.
Denis Schingh is a veteran keyboardist and composer. He is a classically-trained, rock-schooled, jazz-inspired, and globally-oriented 21st century musician.
El Blanco has been drumming and playing guitar for over 30 years, and has performed a myriad of styles with a long list of artists. Most notably he played with Dr. Draw for 5 years, the award winning Latin Alternative band Plan C and shared the stage with Nic “the Browman” Ali at the Montreal Jazz festival.
