"Dog Leg Dilemma wins spot on Jazz Sudbury Stage"

Dog Leg Dilemma will return to the Jazz Sudbury stage for the seventh annual jazz festival this September as the winner of the Emerging Artists Showcase.

Jazz Sudbury officially launched the festival June 3 at Oscar’s Grill with an evening of live musical performances from the top three emerging artists from the organization’s online video talent search.

Audiences were immediately energized by the skillful guitar picking of local pair The Sundance Duo.

For the second act, Martine Fortin, accompanied by her band, delighted the audience with her playful flair and sultry vocals.

Ending the evening with a punch, Dog Leg Dilemma displayed their superb chops, delivering an energetic and hard hitting jazz performance that brought audience members to their feet.

While each group displayed tremendous ability and provided superb entertainment, the Toronto based quartet Dog Leg Dilemma was ultimately declared the 2015 Emerging Artist Showcase Winner, a press release said.

“We’ve been pleasantly surprised every step of the way,” said Peter Bull, bassist and band leader. “It has been a real treat to be a part of this, Sudbury is a very warm and welcoming town and we’re looking forward to revisiting in September.”

Dog Leg Dilemma will play the opening slot on the Main Stage of the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre Sept. 11, joining a star-studded weekend of music which includes the likes of Alex Cuba, Steve Hill and Diana Panton.

Early Bird Weekend Jazz Passes are on sale now for $60. For ticket information, full schedule details and performer information, visit jazzsudbury.ca. - Northern Life

Bio

Dog Leg Dilemma is an energetic, playful, hard hitting, electric jazz quartet that borrows from a wide variety of styles including heavy metal, reggae, rock, funk, fusion, world music and movie soundtracks. The group features Anthony Argatoff on alto saxophone, Nick Lavkulick on guitar, Peter Bull on bass and Noah Sherman on drums. Anthony's lyrical style and melodic agility lend a slippery strength to the band's melodic voice, and when Nick isn't melting faces or supplying atmosphere so thick you can almost drink it, he can be found on the front line, functioning as a second horn. At the back of the stage there is the rhythm section. Band leader, bass player, and composer, Peter Bull dances along the fine line between playing solid functional bass and providing a running melodic commentary for everyone else's parts. Noah, a perpetual trickster, keeps things playful and lighthearted. His is the perfect rhythmic accompaniment for Peter's compositions which seamlessly fuse the the frenetic, tragic, and comic emotions.

DLD was recently the first place winner of the Jazz Sudbury Emerging Artist Showcase which earned them a spot on the 2015 stage opening for The Borealis Quartet and Steve Hill.

Since the band's inception in 2014 they have been booking shows at a variety of jazz clubs in the Toronto area and building their fan base. With over an hour of original music gig tested and road ready, the band is preparing to record their first full length studio album this summer.
