"Doug G, The Rising Son"

Doug Galiardo, aka Doug G, is an independent hip-hop artist from Huntington, NY. Combining hard hitting old school production with in-depth and clever lyrics, there is no doubt that everybody can relate to this kind of music. He started writing at the age 15 influenced by different types of music like hip-hop, rock, jazz, blues, and R&B – but hip-hop is the one that really stuck. He doesn’t try to pretend to be somebody he’s not. He grew up in a home with a mother who was always supportive of his decisions but was skeptical about a musical career, as was his father who didn’t want to support the musical journey because he felt he was building up hope for nothing. It all has played a part in his distinctive lyrics with discussions about family life and personal thoughts. He is not afraid to pour it all out in the open.

At the age of 18 Doug had already had close to 10 shows under his belt performing at local music venues and bars. Looking to further his experience and taking music more seriously, he attended the Institute of Audio Research in 2009 in Manhattan where he met Jay Bernard and formed a hip-hop group under the name of Madbeast. While in Madbeast, the group released a debut album entitled “Vulture” which you can still find on various websites including Datpiff, opened up for a handful of major artists including Immortal Technique, The Psycho Realm, EPMD, Sean Strange, and recorded a song with Huntington, NY and Viper Records native Diabolic. After going strong on the indie hip-hop circuit in NYC performing at venues such as Gramercy Theater, Webster Hall, and The Delancey they started to lose steam and stopped putting out material due to complicated circumstances amongst the group.

Wanting to work at a faster pace, Doug set out on his own solo adventure looking to create a specific sound for himself. With the help of friend and engineer, Will Harris of Sabella Studios in Roslyn, NY, he has been currently working on his debut album called “The Rising Son” capturing all the aspects of his life experiences, putting it into lyrics, and hoping others will relate to it. Showing raw emotion, raw talent, and the capability to keep up with other artists in this genre, Doug G wants to make a mark and be here to stay with his brand of old school meets new school sound.

"Review: Doug G "Vibe To The Power" Single"

“How high do you measure, can you do better?”

Doug G. came through tonight with this feel good single. We may be on opposite coasts (he’s from New York, if you couldn’t tell), but we rock with this one. Hip-Hop has not gone anywhere and people like Doug G. are here to remind us that it will not be gone anytime soon. Vibe To The Power has lyrics and writing that paint a colorful picture in the listener’s mind allowing him or her to capture the full mood of this joint. You can’t help but tap your foot to this one, and I dare you to try not to. Keep it up Doug G. You have our support as long as you can keep making these catchy, yet pure and substantial hip-hop tracks that many would be proud of.

"Doug G Q&A UGHH Blog"

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
To me, the definition is just stay true. Be true to yourself and be honest. The point of this culture is to move people with your words. Whether it’s deep or just having fun. Be true to yourself!
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?
And who would you like to work with? DJ Premier will always be my number 1 influence. His production hits you hard and it’s catchy. Pete Rock and Q Tip are the reasons I wanted to bring that soul/jazz influence in my music., as well as Statik Selektah. He’s my main influence right now, his production is so crisp and old school soul and jazz influenced. And Kanye West’s sample work is flawless. I produce my own music, and I also work with other up and coming producers. To name a few, James Green (Mastermind Alliance) Cee Zhure, and Mr. Temmtation.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Right now, I’m just working on promoting”The Rising Son’ and hoping people recognize that! I’m going to start recording a follow-up to that soon and most of it is written. Also, I’m going to be working with another up and comer Bearded Legend who brings a fresh new sound to the table.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of The Rising Son? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album/Mixtape Cover Art.
This album took me about a year and a half altogether. I usually write cooped up in my room like a hobbit, and write and produce for hours. Then when I get into the studio, my friend and engineer Will Harris will suggest some tweaks to make it better. I’m a big fan of horror movies and vintage looking artwork, so I wanted the album cover to look like an old school horror movie poster meets an old jazz album cover. Jesse Lambert of Arch Angel Studios is the man who made it happen and made it look great.
Where can we find your music and info?
You can find my music on Bandcamp at www.dougygthemc.bandcamp.com and on Soundcloud at www.Soundcloud.com/dougygthemc. Also on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/dougygthemc. Feel free to talk to me any time!
Any shout outs?
First of all shout out to you guys for conducting this and showing love to my music! I would like to shout out the man behind the boards and the man who made this album sound better than it ever could have; Will Harris, Bearded Legend, James Green, Cee Zhure, Jesse Lambert, my family and friends obviously, and everybody and anybody supporting real Hip Hop! Thanks ya’ll! - UndergroundHipHop Blog
