Good Day Noir Family,
Olivia Booth’s latest single, “Wasted,” is a breath of fresh air in today’s music scene, offering a modern sound while exuding timeless elegance.
Wasted is Olivia Booth’s Single Out Now
Booth is a force to be reckoned with.
Her vocals are magnificent, showcasing a rich timbre filled with nuances and an impressive level of control that immediately draws listeners in.
One can’t help but draw comparisons to the legendary Adele, particularly in the emotive power and depth of Booth’s voice.
However, Booth brings her own unique flair to the table, and “Wasted” could easily serve as the soundtrack to a James Bond film.
The production is top-notch, with superb arrangements that perfectly complement the vocals. Every detail has been meticulously crafted, resulting in a polished and professional sound.
What sets this track apart is its dynamic structure, particularly in the bridge where the music momentarily empties out before building to a crescendo that leads to a grand finale.
But perhaps what is most striking about Olivia Booth is not just her undeniable talent, but also her unwavering professionalism and commitment to her craft.
It’s clear that she approaches her music with a level of dedication that is out of the ordinary, and it’s this drive that promises a bright future for her as an artist. - Edgar Allen Poets
Manchester’s rich musical heritage has been a cornerstone of the UK scene since the 1960s, boasting legendary acts such as the Bee Gees. However, it was during the ’70’s, ’80s and ’90s that the city truly came into its own, birthing influential bands like Joy Division, New Order, and The Stone Roses. And, who can’t sing along with Oasis’s ‘Wonderwall’? Manchester is undeniably the indie capital of the UK. One of the newest emerging indie stars hailing from the city is Olivia Booth and her band. Having previously reviewed the single ‘SATISFIED,’ we were excited to have the opportunity to take a listen to the recently released follow-up, indie-pop-rock anthem, ‘Wasted.’
While performing under the moniker Olivia Booth, the band is a collaborative effort, with Olivia on vocals, supported by Emma Greaney on acoustic guitar, Ed Whittaker White on electric guitar, Kian Mulenga on drums, and Josh Owens on bass. Olivia’s journey began in Brighton, where she crossed paths with her bandmates during her studies. Their shared passion for music led them back to Manchester, where they’ve honed their sound, drawing inspiration from the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Sam Fender, their music blends alternative, rock, and pop elements, which are prominently showcased in their latest track ‘Wasted’.
The song kicks off with a tom-based drum beat, accompanied by Olivia’s captivating and compelling vocals. The verse gradually builds up to an energetic and dynamic chorus, accentuated by the addition of guitars and snapping snare. Olivia demonstrates her vocal talent amidst the indie-rock-pop fusion, evoking shades of Avril Lavigne’s distinct style. The infectious melody, the dynamism of the chorus, and Olivia’s remarkable vocals left me wanting more! Whilst drawing influences from bands like Bastille, Olivia’s vocals exude even more power. Even, if you added some heavy distorted guitars, she would still be able to overpower them with her distinctive voice! Midway through the song, ‘Wasted’ adopts a more pop-oriented vibe reminiscent of acts like Florence and the Machine, and it adds a different nuance to the track.
Thematically, ‘Wasted’ explores the universal experience of betrayal in love, capturing the poignant realisation of time wasted on a deceitful partner. It’s an anthem for those who have navigated the tumultuous waters of heartbreak and emerged stronger for it.
‘Wasted’ is a finely crafted modern indie-rock track infused with pop elements, propelled by Olivia’s commanding vocals. Its catchy nature makes it easy to replay and sing along to, while its relatable theme will resonate with a broad audience. With numerous gigs lined up, Olivia and her band are poised to make a name for themselves. Once again, Manchester proves its knack for producing musical gems. - The Indie Grid
On her atmospheric and memorable new indie rock anthem ‘Wasted’, Olivia Booth continues to demonstrate her prowess and establish herself as one of the UK’s most exciting emerging artists, melding thoughtful songwriting and dynamic instrumentation to make for a sound that leaves a lasting impression and sticks to you for long after your listen.
The artist’s new single has an aura of empowerment and fierceness to it, unfolding as an impactful revenge anthem after finding out that your partner has cheated on you. The soaring nature of the artist’s vocals and the sheer power of the instrumental mirror the emotions and feelings that such an event must conjure in fiery and expansive fashion, with Olivia’s authentic charm as an artist lending itself to such a narrative effortlessly. With only four releases to her name, Olivia Booth is well established as an artist who’s sound always feels raw and honest, and telling stories like this allows her to feel more powerful and exciting than ever. - CLOUT
Support: Olivia Booth
I’ve seen Olivia a fair few times, both with her full band and solo acoustic, and in either format she truly excels. All original material, performing acoustically tonight with Ed Whitaker-White joining her for some of the set on guitar. With an utterly mesmerising stage presence and very likeable, Olivia is a breath of fresh air. Such clarity within her voice, which she expertly controls, confidently and easily reaching high notes, extending and holding notes and captivating us entirely!
Far-reaching, full and loud, then dreamy and carefree, then moving and characterful. A siren-like sound that bewitches and casts a musical spell over an entire crowd, we literally hang on her every word. Honey tones, sweet and uplifting. Songs have personal themes which Olivia explains in between and clapping and singing along is encouraged. Folk meets indie meets dream pop vibes. An utterly beguiling set, sparkling and full of life which has gone down very well tonight. Breathtaking vocally and a joy to watch. - New Sound Generation Magazine
Coming out of Manchester is singer-songwriter Olivia Booth, and today sees the singer-songwriter drop her soulful new indie-rock anthem, "Satisfied". The new cut is a brilliant release from a truly exciting rising artist, and it's her first since her 2023 effort Let's Talk".
Effortlessly soulful and anthemic both at the same time.
One thing that hit me from the outset was how warm the track was, with a combination of her soulful vocals and a delicate acoustic guitar you'll be forgiven to think this ends up being a soul tune, well once the chorus kicks in it's more of an indie-rock anthem! The tempo of the song is very mixed but in all fairness, it'll definitely keep you on your toes, and even in the live setting I imagine that'll give plenty of opportunities to get all furious in a mosh-pit.
I honestly can't compare her to any artist as I feel like no one has created a true blend of soul-rock, with anthemic guitar hooks and blinding drum patterns. If you want an artist to get on board with in 2024 that could be huge in the UK's emerging music scene then Olivia Booth could be the one! - It’s All Indie
Hailing from the vibrant musical landscape of Manchester, UK, Olivia Booth emerges as a formidable force with her debut band track, ‘SATISFIED.’ A rising artist and songwriter, Olivia’s musical journey unfolds with a promise of dynamism and emotion. This up-tempo, crowd-pleaser not only showcases her sultry warm vocals and impressive songwriting but also introduces a cool indie pop-meets-R&B-meets-reggae vibe that demands attention.
‘SATISFIED,’ Olivia Booth’s inaugural band track, starts with acoustic guitar and vocals, instantly captivating the listener. Olivia’s vocals, haunting and warm, serve as the centrepiece, guiding listeners through a narrative that delves into a coming-of-age theme, highlighting the realisation that personal growth may lead to outgrowing certain aspects of relationships.
The transition into an electrifying mix of guitars and drums is nothing short of a musical revelation. The seamless shift propels the song into an up-tempo, crowd-pleasing experience and creates an almost punk rock atmosphere that makes you want to move! The drums, in particular, emerge as a driving force and skillfully connect the diverse sections.
The chorus, a crowning achievement, not only boasts commercial appeal for music fans but I can also hear it being used in TV commercials or even movies. Its infectious quality leaves an indelible impression. Olivia’s vocal delivery is uniquely interesting and marked by distinctive slides and twists that make her voice instantly recognisable, a standout feature.
The middle 8 introduces an unexpected yet delightful surprise – an impressive held note… nearly on par with Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’ moment… not quite, but nearly! This shows Olivia is an artist not afraid to take risks and push boundaries.
Recorded and produced by Jonothan Tringham at Allo Sound, the production quality complements Olivia’s vocals and the musicians, resulting in a well-crafted and engaging track.
Influenced by a diverse array of artists, including Ed Sheeran, Sam Fender, Bastille, and Arctic Monkeys, Olivia has a sound that transcends genres. ‘SATISFIED’ stands at the intersection of modern R&B, indie pop, reggae, and even hints of punk, creating a unique and memorable listening experience.
In conclusion, ‘SATISFIED’ is more than just a debut track; it showcases Olivia Booth’s diverse talent. Addressing relationship complexities and coming-of-age themes, Olivia demonstrates her willingness to experiment, marking her as an emerging artist with the potential to make a lasting impact on the music scene. - The Indie Grid
What made you decide that music is a thing for you?
Although I am not from a musical family, I have been surrounded by music all my life, whether my Mum playing 80’s classics, or my older brother and his friends playing drum and bass. My parents noticed I could sing when I was small and as I struggled with confidence as I got older, they encouraged me to take singing lessons and I have never looked back.
The first time I performed in public I was nine years old, and although I was terrified, I loved the reaction I got. When I perform live on stage it is the best feeling I almost feel a little safer up there, for me there is nothing else like it. I cannot imagine my life without music, and I am so grateful I get to do what I love.
Introduce us to you and your musical history.
So my name’s Olivia Booth, (there’s Mae Elizabeth in the middle but we don’t talk about that - RGM Magazine
Olivia Booth stands as a maestro of emotion. Wielded by piano and violin, Olivia’s lyrics is like a paintbrush on the canvas of the soul. In her latest pop ballad, “Let’s Talk,” Booth opens the door to a world where vulnerability is not a weakness but a profound strength.
“Let’s Talk” unfolds like a delicate dance between the strings of an acoustic guitar and the heartbeat of drums, creating a melancholic symphony that wraps itself around the listener. The slow tempo, far from being a hindrance, becomes a deliberate choice, allowing the weight of the lyrics to settle in, creating an intimate space for introspection.
Booth’s lyrics cut through the air with poignant simplicity: “You say you’re alright. You hold your head high…you don’t have to hold it in. You just got to let me in. You push your emotions off to the side.” In these words, she articulates the universal struggle of wearing a facade, pretending everything is fine when the heart is heavy.
The essence of “Let’s Talk” lies not just in its musicality but in the profound message it carries. Booth becomes a sonic confidante, urging the listener not to bottle up their emotions. The song becomes a plea for vulnerability, a call to let the floodgates of emotions open instead of pushing them aside.
Booth’s lyrical prowess doesn’t just narrate her personal story but serves as a vessel for universal emotions. The listener is not a passive observer; they are an active participant in a conversation about the shared human experience of grappling with overwhelming feelings.
Hailing from Warrington in North West UK, Olivia Booth is more than a singer-songwriter; she is a storyteller of emotions. Currently honing her craft at BIMM Manchester, Booth brings a unique blend of indie pop, rock, folk, and a splash of country storytelling to her music.
Whether performing as a solo acoustic artist or fronting her incredible band, Booth promises an authentic musical experience. Her songs are not just compositions; they are emotional journeys that resonate with the listener’s own experiences.
“Let’s Talk” is not just a song; it’s a therapeutic session set to music. Olivia Booth invites us to sit with our emotions, to acknowledge the struggles, and to find strength in vulnerability. In a world that often encourages silence, Booth’s music becomes a resounding call to talk, to share, and to heal. - Boyz II Business
Olivia Booth – what can I say? She just has the most stunning and beguiling voice, and with her full band accompanying her today it’s another level. From the off she has the entire square captivated, like a musical siren, mesmerising and enchanting us as we fall completely under this musical spell. It’s hypnotic with a dream-like sound. It’s another directional change and another show-stopping set (not a first for Olivia) I was under her spell from the first time I saw her, acoustically, in Warrington bus station a year ago. I just love her sound. - New Sound Generation Music Magazine
So, tonight’s first set is rather special and very new. It’s the first ever performance from Olivia Booth with her brand new full band, who she later tells me have travelled all the way up from Brighton to perform! They may be first time gigging, but you’d never know. Clearly very well rehearsed, it’s a strong set from the get go. The feels are light and airy, cheery yet sad, up tempo. Olivia’s vocal is very strong, sweet and dreamy. It’s a real drum driven sound with definite indie feels, but with a folk, gypsy and slight country feel. Smooth and very clean guitar lines, built up from an acoustic sound; it’s a real free and easy vibe. Very watchable as a band – confident, and they honestly look as though they’ve been doing this together for years. The entire band have real stage presence. It’s a lively set, with lots of smiles and genuine interaction; the guys encourage clapping, which our busy venue joins in with whole heartedly. Shimmery sounds, mellow folk but with sparkling indie explosions! Having seen Olivia perform before but as a solo acoustic artist, I can honestly say her sound translates perfectly into this full band style. There’s a sadness yet warmth to her dream-like vocal, but with an edge to it. A real explosion of sounds…toe tapping, brilliantly original songs mixed with the cover she made her own. I’m very keen to see what’s next and will be following Olivia Booth closely. I really loved this set and will definitely be catching Olivia and her wonderful band again as soon as I possibly can. Well done guys! - New Sound Generation Music Magazine
Olivia Booth's latest single "A Kiss From Me To You" marks her fifth release and showcases her talent as a rising star in the indie music scene.
This catchy anthem, produced by the innovative Gareth Nuttall, features a dynamic percussion backdrop complemented by Olivia's bold, sassy vocals that deliver sharp lyrics with undeniable flair.
Drawing inspiration from a painful encounter with an ex and their new love, this track taps into emotions many can relate to, establishing it as a powerful anthem of revenge. Olivia’s self-written piece captures the mood perfectly, blending engaging melodies with striking vocals, all while highlighting her vibrant pop-rock sound.
Recorded at The Lounge Recording Studio in Wigan, "A Kiss From Me To You" is a defining moment for Olivia Booth, further solidifying her status as an artist to watch in the indie landscape. - Tunesaround
The first thing you’ll notice when Olivia Booth’s A Kiss From Me To You kicks off is that it doesn’t waste time. Right from the off, there’s this punchy, no-nonsense drumbeat that grabs you by the throat and tells you: this is gonna be good.
It sets the foundation for what follows—a rich, melodic indie-pop banger dripping with attitude and packed with raw emotion. And then Olivia’s voice? Hell, she just owns it. This isn’t some floaty, ethereal vocal you get lost in—it’s sharp, sassy, and delivered with a swagger that immediately draws you into her world. She’s got something to say, and you damn well better listen.
Produced by Gareth Nuttall (you know him from working with The Ks and Lottery Winners), this is Olivia’s fifth release, and you can hear the production pedigree from the first note. Nuttall’s touch gives the track a polished yet gritty edge that suits Olivia’s vibe perfectly. It’s not overly slick like some pop-leaning indie tracks; it’s got that rough-around-the-edges energy that makes it feel alive. There’s weight to the bass and guitars, giving the song an indie-rock spine while still letting Olivia’s vocals shine front and centre.
Lyrically, A Kiss From Me To You is a classic revenge track, and Olivia nails it. We’ve all been there—the awkward, gut-punch moment when you bump into your ex with their shiny new partner, and you want nothing more than to flip the tables and walk away with your head held high. Olivia takes that moment, bottles it up, and serves it to us with a cheeky grin. It’s got a sort of sly confidence in the lyrics, like she’s saying, “Yeah, I see you. And you’re not worth my time.” It’s all attitude without being brash, a perfect middle finger disguised as a pop melody.
The guitars? They’re doing something fantastic here—clean, driving, and always pushing the song forward. They’ve got this indie-rock crunch but balanced with a melodic pop sensibility that makes the song stick in your head. This isn’t just some run-of-the-mill indie-pop tune; it’s got teeth. The bass rumbles along underneath, locking in with the drums to give the whole track this infectious groove.
There’s a certain tension throughout the track, probably because the whole thing was inspired by such a raw, relatable moment. You can feel the emotion seeping through every note, every drum hit, every vocal inflection. Olivia’s voice, in particular, carries that tension so well. It’s clear, it’s confident, but there’s a bite to it—a kind of vulnerability masked by bravado. That’s the beauty of this track: it’s got layers. Sure, on the surface, it’s a banger with a killer hook, but dig deeper and you’ll find something a little more complex. - RGM
The track is the fifth single from the emerging UK artist
On her punchy and engrossing new single ‘A KISS FROM ME TO YOU’, rising UK artist Olivia Booth embraces the most driven and soaring side of her sound, as she delves into a revenge anthem about an ex with an empowering vigour and energy that feels infectious throughout.
The self-written track explores the excruciating experience of bumping into an ex and their new partner, and the artist’s distinctive and attitude-filled vocal performance feels commanding and powerful throughout, representing somebody knowing their worth in resonating and uplifting fashion. The artist’s bullish and impactful pop rock style shines throughout the track, and feels vibrant and full of life throughout. The dynamic instrumentation, bold and unapologetic style, and Olivia’s determined, intoxicating charisma make for a really exciting and memorable release, and one that continues to highlight her nuance and appeal as a rising artist. - CLOUT
Back with her third single of the year is the amazing Olivia Booth with "A Kiss From Me To You". The new single from the Manchester-based artist sounds like it could be a career-defining one as this to us sounds absolutely huge.
The swagger-filled intro leads into a sharp and energetic chorus that's filled with plenty of indie hooks that'll bring you in, inch by inch, and before you realise it you're a fan deep within her back catalogue
Produced by Gareth Nuttall (Frank Turner, Rolling People) he has put a shimmer onto the track that just lifts up Olivia's vocals to the next level. It features a thumping bass line in the verse that forces you to bop your head and an soaring, energetic chorus that rises to the occasion. Inspired by artists including The Arctic Monkeys and Sam Fender, Booth blends the indie grit of the former and the emotional pull of the latter to shape a striking rocker full of soul. This thoughtful songwriting comes alive through sharp lyrics that not only mirror the raw, hard-hitting instrumental but also capture the intensity of a chance encounter with an ex. Booth sings, “don’t need you to want me, turns out you wanted someone else’s body, but you stood in front of me” – these lyrics are direct and beg you to keep listening like the musical equivalent of a cliffhanger.
