Singer-songwriter Evan Button represents a bright future for Hampton Roads' local music scene. Button is a 16-year-old with a big, John Mayer-like voice with a little hint of Dave Matthews. Both of these young, emerging artists will amaze.
On Button's 10-song debut, I hear two obvious made for radio tracks: "Walking on Earth" and "Educated Fools". Both are up-tempo tunes with a hook melody and infectious groove. Another nice track is the slower, piano-powered dirge of "Dwell on the Past".
Overall, Walking on Earth is a fun, feel-good original recording of acoustic-pop. To borrow a slogan from The Who - The kid is alright. - Veer Magazine

“SOUL!” This is the word uttered most frequently when people are describing 16-year-old Evan Button. Whether they are talking about Evan’s voice or his musical selection, “soul” is the primary descriptive word. And as Veer Magazine states, Evan has a "big John Mayer-like voice with a little hint of Dave Matthews". Add a powerhouse band and great things are in the makin'!
The band consists of Vasili Simmons on lead guitar, Tommy Koehler on percussion and Dave Hufstedler on bass. Vasili has performed with many noteworthy acts. He has shared bills with Tim Reynolds and TR3, Joel Futterman, Astral Project, Liquid Soul, Derek Trucks Band, Jerry Garcia Band, David Allen Coe, Little Feat, Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Steve Morse Band to name a few. Tommy, a student at James Madison University, has been playing with Evan for the last three years. An incredible talent, Tommy adds creative rhythms to the mix. Dave has toured with regional dance bands and has opened for George Benson, Rosemary Clooney, Brenda Lee and Woody Shaw. Evan is lucky to be surrounded by a talented, experienced group of musicians!
Evan’s passion is songwriting. He writes with the maturity of someone who has “been here before”; his lyrics are introspective and sensitive and the music has an infectious groove. Evan’s first full length CD, “Walking On Earth”, was released in January 2015. Backed by the band, Evan tells stories that are down to earth and filled with important life messages.
When Evan plays, people stop what they are doing and look up in surprise; they can’t believe such a big sound is coming from a teenager. Evan appeals to a wide audience, children love seeing a teen perform and teens and adults enjoy witnessing young talent. Evan can be booked as a solo, duo, or full band act.
