Summary

The Ryan J. Lariviere Memorial Fund is looking for original bands playing original music. The Ryan J. Lariviere Memorial Fund, together with PIXY 103 present The Ryan J. Lariviere Memorial Fund “2006 Battle of the Bands”.

The Ryan J. Lariviere Memorial Fund was set up as a non-profit 501C 3 Charity in 2003 by Ryan's parents, Rick and Marie Lariviere. The vision for the Fund is to give new original musicians a chance to be discovered. The Fund set out to establish an annual "Battle of the Bands" where original musicians could compete to win a prize package that would truly help their career.

The battle itself takes place on October 7, 2006 at Pufferbellies Entertainment Complex in Hyannis, MA. Last year's Battle had more than 600 people in attendance. The bands selected for the Battle will be announced several weeks prior to the Battle live on PIXY’s 103 Home Grown Show with Suzanne Tonaire. Following the announcement, the finalist will be listed on the www.rjlmemorialfund.org website.

The winning band/musician receives 40 hours of recording time and 8 hours of mastering at MDI Productions in Plymouth, MA. 1,000 Professionally Illustrated and Packaged CDs from Nimbit. One Year of Nimbit Pro Online Web Services. Nimbit DIY National Promotion Package. Featured Artist of the Month on PIXY 103's Home Grown Show with the "Rock Babe", Suzanne Tonaire.

All semi-finalists (10 bands) receive a six-month Sonicbids membership showcasing artists and one annual Sonicbids membership to the winning band/musician. Room and Board at "The Camp" during recording. Donations from other sponsors will be awarded to other band/musicians during the event, including MP3 Players from 4imprint and other music related prizes.

Using a panel of judges in the music industry, performers are judged using a set of established criteria consisting, in part, of musical style, content, quality, skills, originality, stage presence, and personal interests. The judges expect that the music performed in the Battle will be written by current members of the band and indicative of the type of music that the band would record should they win the contest.

There will be two panels of judges for the Battle. The first panel of judges will be comprised on the surviving members of “dismal” (Ryan’s former band). They will choose the bands that will compete in the Battle using the “blinded” method, which means that the judges will listen to the demo songs sent in by each band and will not know band names, ages, etc. The bands selected by these judges will then be invited to perform at the Battle.

Past performers making it to the finals include the winning band, Black Betty and the Bad Habits, 3rd Left, Mad Session, Purity's Demise, Sara Leketa, The Coming Storm, The Proposal, Inflicted, Second by Second and 16 Stitches.

Sponsors include but not limited to: PIXY 103, Nimbit, Sonicbids, SpecialFX and 4imprint. Sponsors and prizes are added as they become available.

Please note: EPKs will not be considered unless they contain at least 3 songs and a photo. There will also be additional forms to download and fill out from the RJL Memorial Fund website per the Rules and Regulations.
