Q Song is open to all unpublished songwriters across Queensland and is an initiative of Q Music, The Queensland Music Network. In 2006, its inaugural year, Q Song attracted more than 900 entries from songwriters all over Queensland. 2007 saw entries jump to more than 1600 from all over Queensland and the event moved to The Tivoli Theatre in Fortitude Valley.



Hosted by Caroline Tran from Triple J and Richard Fidler from 612 ABC Brisbane, Q Song 2007 included performances from Jackie Marshall, The Gin Club, Banawurun, Small Mercies, and more. Also, with presentations from The Grates, Butterfingers and Kate Miller-Heidke, Q Song 2007 cemented the event as the premier Music Awards night in Queensland.



Past winners include: Kate Miller-Heidke, Roz Pappalardo (Women in Docs), The Boatpeople, Tim Steward, The Grates, Mason Rack, Chris Pickering and many more.



Q Song is judged by a team of Queensland Music Industry professionals. Past judges include Noel Mengel (The Courier-Mail); Sarah Howells (Triple J), Quentin Ellison (4zzzfm); Steve Bell (Time Off Magazine), Chris Harms (Rave Magazine), Pat Whyte (The Courier-Mail ), Stephen Foster (SugarRush Records), and Stuart Watters (AIR).



Q Song is open to all unpublished Queensland songwriters. Songwriters can enter unlimited songs in 13 different categories: Pop, Rock, Blues and Roots,Country, Hip Hop, Electronic Dance, Jazz, World/Folk, Indigenous, Alternative, Gospel/Spiritual, Primary School, Secondary School, and Metal/Punk.



Each category winner is awarded a $1000 cash prize and $500 cash prize for primary and secondary school categories. Winners are selected by a panel of Queensland music industry professionals and announced at the Q Song Awards, which will be held in August 2007.



Songs are judged on innovation, architecture, lyrical content and musicianship, NOT on production values.



This year, more than $25,000 worth of cash and prizes is up for grabs with winners announced at The Gala Awards Night on August 12, 2008 at The Tivoli in Brisbane.
