Q Song is open to all unpublished songwriters across Queensland and is an initiative of Q Music, The Queensland Music Network. In 2006, its inaugural year, Q Song attracted more than 900 entries from songwriters all over Queensland. 2007 saw entries jump to more than 1600 from all over Queensland and the event moved to The Tivoli Theatre in Fortitude Valley.



Hosted by Caroline Tran from Triple J and Richard Fidler from 612 ABC Brisbane, Q Song 2007 included performances from Jackie Marshall, The Gin Club, Banawurun, Small Mercies, and more. Also, with presentations from The Grates, Butterfingers and Kate Miller-Heidke, Q Song 2007 cemented the event as the premier Music Awards night in Queensland.



Past winners include: Kate Miller-Heidke, Roz Pappalardo (Women in Docs), The Boatpeople, Tim Steward, The Grates, Mason Rack, Chris Pickering and many more.



Q Song is judged by a team of Queensland Music Industry professionals. Past judges include Noel Mengel (The Courier-Mail); Sarah Howells (Triple J), Quentin Ellison (4zzzfm); Steve Bell (Time Off Magazine), Chris Harms (Rave Magazine), Pat Whyte (The Courier-Mail ), Stephen Foster (SugarRush Records), and Stuart Watters (AIR).



Q Song is open to all unpublished Queensland songwriters. Songwriters can enter unlimited songs in 13 different categories: Pop, Rock, Blues and Roots,Country, Hip Hop, Electronic Dance, Jazz, World/Folk, Indigenous, Alternative, Gospel/Spiritual, Primary School, Secondary School, and Metal/Punk.



Each category winner is awarded a $1000 cash prize and $500 cash prize for primary and secondary school categories. Winners are selected by a panel of Queensland music industry professionals and announced at the Q Song Awards, which will be held in August 2007.



Songs are judged on innovation, architecture, lyrical content and musicianship, NOT on production values.



This year, more than $25,000 worth of cash and prizes is up for grabs with winners announced at The Gala Awards Night on August 12, 2008 at The Tivoli in Brisbane.

Terms And Conditions

Q SONG AWARDS 2008
OFFICIAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. Q SONG AWARDS 2008 is open to all residents of Queensland. Non-residents of Queensland are NOT eligible to enter.

2. The song(s) must be the original work of the entrant and the entrant must not be published or signed to a publishing deal.

3. Entries must not compromise Q Music's obligations to its principal sponsors for the event.

4. The Indigenous Category is open only to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander songwriters and all Indigenous entries will be automatically entered into this category as a BONUS entry.

5. The Regional Category is open to all songwriters outside of Brisbane and all regional songwriters will automatically be entered into this category as a BONUS entry. Please ensure you put your postcode on your submission so we can enter you into this category if you qualify.

6. School Aged Categories: PRIMARY (year 1 - 7); SECONDARY (years 8 - 12).

7. The Song of the Year, The Courier-Mail People's Choice Award and The Q Music/Applewoods Encouragement Award will be chosen from the finalists of the genre categories.

8. The Published Song of the Year Award and the Grant McLennan Lifetime Achievement Award nominations will be selected by a panel of Queensland Music Industry professionals. These nominations include artists who are published and who have made outstanding contributions to Queensland Music.

9. The same song may be entered into more than one category. However, a separate Sonicbids submission and entry fee must be lodged for each category.

10. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC may be entered into all categories.

11. SONG LYRICS. If there are lyrics in your song, you must provide the lyrics to each song entered.

12. Make sure all songwriters of each song entered are clearly listed.

13. Four finalists will be chosen in each category. The finalists will be notified on JUNE 30th, 2008. All finalists will be asked to provide a photo and bio for promotional use and will be considered for media opportunities relating to the event.

14. ALL COPYRIGHTS remain the property of the songwriter. No contestant may infringe upon existing copyrights and by agreeing to the Q Song 2008 Terms and Conditions the contestant agrees that the Queensland Music Network Inc. (Q MUSIC) is not held responsible for any such infringement which may occur, and will indemnify Q MUSIC against any legal action which may arise as a result of such breaches of copyright.

15. ALL CATEGORY WINNERS agree to have their winning entry included on various websites for streaming.

16. WINNERS will be announced at the presentation ceremony on August 12th, 2008 at The Tivoli.

17. CASH PRIZES will be awarded at the Q SONG 2008 AWARDS. Recording studio time will be available upon arrangement with Q MUSIC and each category studio sponsor (contact Q MUSIC for details).

18. Q MUSIC STAFF and affiliated sponsors of Q SONG AWARDS 2008 are not eligible to enter the Competition.

19. WINNING SONGS from previous years are not eligible to be re-entered.

20. By ticking the box the entrant agrees to accept the Terms and Conditions of the Competition.
