Summary

Indiegrrl Women in the Arts produces a songwriting contest to bring awareness to women in music. Money raised from this contest goes toward the building and development of our Indiegrrl Educational Center and Music Camp for Children. Top 5 winners get a showcase slot at the Indiegrrl Women in the Arts Conference and will be featured in a promotional compilation CD./n/nIndiegrrl Women in the Arts non-profit produces a yearly songwriting contest to bring awareness to women in music. Money raised from this contest goes toward the building and development of our Indiegrrl Educational Center and Music Camp for Children. The Top 5 winners get a showcase slot at the Indiegrrl Women in the Arts Conference and will have their song included on the 2011 Indiegrrl Women in the Arts compilation CD that is used for media and event promotion.



They accept a variety of categories including musical arrangements. Judging is based on lyrics, musical arrangement, and originalty and not on the production quality of the recording. Lyric sheets are required and specifically asked for by the judges so please make sure lyrics are typed into your submissions. Entries without a lyric sheet will be disqualified.




This is the third year they have produced this contest and it continues to grow. Some of the sponsors are A to Z Media CD Duplicating, Luna Guitars, Kari Estrin Managment & Consulting, Kyser Capo, Onlinegigs, Musician's Atlas, Sonicbids and more. Winner of the 2009 contest was Sonya Heller with her song Justine. Judges are selected from various fields related to the music industry from composers, songwriters, publishers, radio producers, and music and vocal instructors and have worked with artists at both major record labels and Indies. The 2010 Indiegrrl Women in the Art Conference & Festival is located in Knoxville, TN on August 19 to 22, 2010.

Judges:

  • John Philip Shenale a well known music composer working with artists like Tori Amos and based out of Los Angeles, CA
  • Robin Taylor Drake President of Songscape Music LLC in Nashville, TN
  • Bill Pere is a songwriter, producer, and teacher and gives workshops at many leading edge music conferences and is the President of the Connecticut Songwriters Association
  • Brian Ball is Director of Music & Talent for Women’s Radio and based in Oakland, CA
  • Marta Woodhull is respected as one of the best vocal teachers in the industry and is based in Los Angeles, CA
