2012 No Contracts Needed Rompetition

The No Contracts Needed Rompetition is in it's 5th year of competition, the Romp is a multi-round, non-genre specific, industry & fan judged musical competition. The competition is designed to help new, independent acts to expose themselves to a larger audience via a platform that consistently shows off great local talent. This year's competition is sponsored by UNregular Radio, Green SIde Up Art Gallery and F Nice Records and will be the first held in 4 cities./n/n

The competition is designed to help new, independent acts to expose themselves to a larger audience via a platform that consistently shows off great local talent. This year's competition is sponsored by UNregular Radio, Green SIde Up Art Gallery and F Nice Records and will be the first held in 4 cities.



The NCN '12 Rompetition will be a two round, multi city battle. 1 winner will come from each of the four cities represented in the Romp. Then, 2 wild card bands will be determined through high scores by industry judges. These 6 finalists will meet at McGann's in Boston, MA on February 25th for the 2012 No Contracts Needed Rompetition FINALS.



Selected winners will receive:

• This year's Grand Prize will be a paid set opening up Lift, a music festival at Whaleback Mountain on the weekend of March 9th through 11th, 2012. Headlining this festival is Ghostland Observatory and Conspirator. The winner will also win an EP recorded at Stone Otis Studios in Framingham as well as the signature NCN '12 Romp glass trophy donated by Green Side Up art gallery.


• Second prize will be a fully recorded single by Stone Otis Studios in Framingham, MA as well as the second place vaporizer


• Third prize will be a single recorded and released by and at UNregular Radio.

Each band will be judged upon a scale of 1-3 in the categories of:

• Musical Ability- how well an act plays their instruments and plays together


• Song writing- the originality, creativeness and dynamics displayed in a band's songs


• Crowd interaction/stage presence- an act's ability to entertain a crowd vocally and physically


• Originality- an acts ability to stand out as different yet good amongst the competitors

There will be an online vote for each show that will award a band 1 point. The online vote will happen during the 7 days leading up to the competition date. A band will be awarded 3 points for the crowd vote. Acts' fans will be able to vote after each set via ballots. This is a total of 16 points that a band can earn via judges, online votes and crowd votes.

• NH round: February 4th @ The Dover Brickhouse (Dover, NH)


• New York City round: February 11th @ The Brooklyn Bowl


• Rhode Island round: February 18th @ Firehouse 13


• Boston rounds: February 10th, 11th, 17th, 18th (all ages + 21+ show) @ McGann's


• FINALS-February 25th live on UNregularRadio.com & at McGann's in Boston, MA.
