Summary

No, they’re not a coffee shop! The Acoustic Brew Coffeehouse is a non-profit, volunteer-run concert series. They are a listening place committed to providing reasonably priced folk and acoustic music in an intimate, smoke and alcohol free environment. Starting in 1992, the Acoustic Brew was the idea of John Walls, who moved to central Pennsylvania from New England and who had been involved with the Nameless Coffeehouse in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In just a few years, the Acoustic Brew developed a strong reputation among folk performers and in the local community. Despite its small size, Acoustic Brew has attracted quite a number of regional and national folk artists.

Acoustic Brew has presents about a dozen concerts a year in a 100-seat venue that is so acoustically sound that there is no need for electronic sound reinforcement. A modest compensation is usually provided for opening acts in between $75 - $100 for a 20 – 30 minute set. There is sometimes a larger venue that the series is booked, and this is where a larger amount of compensation comes into play. This is negotiable at the time of booking. All the venues for the series are in or near Pennsylvania State College.
