Don't miss your LAST CHANCE to submit to Alberta’s Last Band Standing (ALBS) which will feature 72 of the Province’s Top Independent Original Rock Artists in a multiple round, head-to-head battle, for the chance to be crowned Alberta’s Last Band Standing. The winner will receive a prize package with an approximate value of $50,000, including $5000 cash. Other prizes include studio time, a merchandise package, a gas card for touring, a spread in Portal Magazine, and more./n/nAlberta’s Last Band Standing (ALBS) will feature 72 of the Province’s Top Independent Original Rock Artists in a multiple round, head-to-head battle, for the chance to be crowned Alberta’s Last Band Standing. It will be the pinnacle of Independent Annual Band Battles completely removed from any influence, preferential treatment or bias, where the Winner of the Battle is actually the best band. With every participating band having an equal chance of winning the ultimate title, ALBS will become the most sought after and prestigious competition title available in Alberta. The winner will receive a prize package with an approximate value of $50,000, including $5000 cash.


Alberta’s Last Band Standing will take place from April 15th – June 19th, 2010 featuring 6 rounds of head to head competition. The host venue for ALBS will be one of Alberta’s premier intimate venues, The New Taphouse in St. Albert, which features one of Alberta’s largest "intimate venue" stages (30’x20”), quality production, exceptional food and service and unlimited free parking. The New Taphouse is a true Live Music venue, with music themed decor and unrestricted stage viewing sight lines.


At least 1 Sonicbids band will participle in Alberta's Last Band Standing and artists selected through Sonicbids will not be required to pay the normal participation fee.


To submit and be selected to participate, Artists must meet the following criteria:


  • Be Alberta based

  • Have a professionally recorded EP (5 song) or LP (Exceptions will be made)

  • Provide three reference letters from recognized Industry Organizations (Recording Studio, Festival Producer, Venue, Promoter, Media)NOT MANDATORY

  • Not be on a “Recognized” Record Label or Major Agency Roster

  • All members are to be 18+

  • NO PRIMA DONNAS, negative attitude towards the event, its organizers or any of the competing bands will result in expulsion from the event

  • Each band submitting will go through an approval process (April 6th) you will know if you were approved on April 7th via e-mail


Prizes

The prize package will include 3 days of studio recording time at Powersound Recording Studios in Edmonton, AB with Trevor Hurst of Econoline Crush producing, a merchandise package from an Edmonton based screen printer, a scholarship package with a local college to be used with any of the programs it is offering, Pro-Tools Certification vouchers, CD package design, website design, gas card for touring, minimum 4 page spread in Portal Magazine, several photo shoots, a Boonstock booking and a $5000 cash prize. Second place will take home $1000 cash and prizes, Third place will receive $500 cash and prizes.


Judging Criteria

With an unannounced (to avoid undue influences) and rotating panel of judges, participating ALBS Artists will be scored on 4 separate criteria with each category being scored up to 50 points. The 4 criteria are Fan Support, Song Writing, Musicianship, and Live Performance. The Artist who achieves the highest score (maximum 200 points) each night will win the night and advance to the next round. Out of town bands will be given a handicap on the Fan Support criteria, which will be calculated by distance from the venue. These judges will be used only for the finale. All other judges identities will remain undisclosed.
