The Ann Arbor Summer Festival is an exhilarating three-week celebration of performing arts, outdoor entertainment, and community spirit that attracts more than 60,000 people each year. Top of the Park, the admission-free outdoor component of the festival, features three (3) stages of local, regional and national artists. An average of 2,000 people attend the event each night. Compensation is available for selected performers, and ten (10) slots will be reserved for Sonicbids artists./n/nThe Ann Arbor Summer Festival is an exhilarating three-week celebration of performing arts, outdoor entertainment, and community spirit that attracts more than 60,000 people each year. This boutique music and arts festival runs mid-June through mid-July, and offers dozens of performances, events, activities, exhibitions, screenings, and more, featuring the best in music, dance, comedy, theater, spoken word, visual, fringe, performance and street arts.
During its three-week run, the festival produces two concurrent programs, one indoor and one outdoor, at various venues and public spaces across the University of Michigan campus and in downtown Ann Arbor. The indoor Mainstage series includes ticketed performances of world-class music, dance, theater, and comedy. The outdoor program, Top of the Park, is held along a beautiful campus green and offers admission-free concerts, movies under the stars, open-air spectacles, family attractions, and more.
Recent Mainstage seasons have featured such artists as; Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson, Gladys Knight, Chris Isaak, Diana Krall, Ani DiFranco, John Waters, Lily Tomlin, Cesaria Evora, MOMIX, Pink Martini, Lyle Lovett, k.d. lang, Devo, Buddy Guy, KT Tunstall, Mikhail Baryshnikov, A Prairie Home Companion, Natalie MacMaster, Manhattan Transfer, John Hiatt, The Funk Brothers, Meow Meow, Afro-Cuban All Stars, Los Lobos, Cinematic Titanic, Caravan Palace, Patty Griffin, and more.
Top of the Park, the admission-free outdoor component of the festival, features three (3) stages of local, regional and national artists. An average of 2,000 people attend the event each night. Stage Details:
Full sound, stage, lights, tech staff, merch sellers, and festival promotion are provided for band performance sets ranging from 30-120 minutes. Bands on this admission-free stage are paid a modest flat fee.
Genres of interest for this stage include; Acoustic, Adult Contemporary, Alternative, Americana, Avant-garde, Bluegrass, Blues, Celtic, Classic Rock, Comedy, Contemporary Classical, Country, Cover Band, Electronic/Dance/DJ, Folk, Funk, Gospel, Hip-Hop/Rap, Jam Band, Jazz, Latin, Novelty/Variety, Pop, R&B, Reggae, Rock, Ska, Singer/Songwriter, Soul, Standards, Zydeco and World.
Artists on this stage are paid a modest honorarium. Basic technical production is provided. Performers are expected to self-promote their own shows.
