Stop & Shop presents the 2004 Apple & Eve Newport Folk Festival/Folk Music Talent Search - the opportunity for emerging musicians and songwriters to play among national headliners at the Newport Folk Festival, August 6-8, 2004. One of the largest and most prestigious folk music festivals in the world, the Apple & Eve Newport Folk Festival attracts as many as 20,000 music fans and become known as a launching pad for many of todays folk and acoustic music stars.
Five finalists will be selected from all entries and will then compete in front of a panel of judges on the Newport stage the day before the festival begins. Livingston Taylor will host the event scheduled for August 5, 2004 at Fort Adams Park in Newport, Rhode Island. The winner will appear at the Festival in front of thousands of music fans, on a bill with some of the greatest artists performing today. Both the music and the lyrics must be original and the sole work of the contestant entering the competition.
The 2004 Festival opens at 8:00 pm on Friday, August 6, in the Ballroom of the Hotel Viking, in An Evening With Ron Sexsmith and another artist to be announced. On Saturday, August 7th, the Festival moves to beautiful Fort Adams State Park. The lineup on the Fort and Borders stages includes Crosby, Stills & Nash, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Corey Harris & 5X5, Mindy Smith, Slaid Cleaves, Vusi Mahlasela, Lila Downs, and Mary Jane Lamond. A third Waterside Stage will feature string bands all day long, including The Mammals, Adrienne Young & Little Sadie, and Laura Cortese & Ten Brooks. On Sunday, August 8th, performers on the Fort and Borders stages will be Wilco, Doc Watson, Rufus Wainwright, Joan Osborne, the Dixie Hummingbirds with special guests Levon Helm & Garth Hudson, Ollabelle, Laura Cantrell, Chip Taylor & Carrie Rodriguez, Old Crow Medicine Show, Lori McKenna, and Darden Smith. The Waterside Stage will continue with the string band themefeaturing Old Crow Medicine Show, Crooked Still, and The Mammals.

Online submission deadline is July 1, 2004 11:59:59 P.M. Eastern Time. Mail-in submissions will be accepted until 5 P.M. Eastern Time on July 2, 2004.
PLEASE NOTE: Artists selected from online submissions will need to provide a VHS/DVD of their song performance to be eligible to qualify as one of 5 finalists. You will be notified if you need to provide video.
