Summary

The Art of Cool Project’s After Hours Concert Series takes place the first and third Fridays of every month. First Friday concerts are held at Flanders Gallery in Raleigh, NC from 9pm to 12am. Third Fridays concerts are held at LabourLove Gallery in Durham, NC from 9pm-12am.

Produced by the coolest jazz presenting nonprofit in the Triangle, this is an excellent opportunity for up and coming artists, as well as established acts, to get in front of new faces. Featuring one band each evening, the series has a relaxed atmosphere complete with good music and good art. There are two performance opportunities reserved for Sonicbids artists each month.

Past performers at the 2011/2012 series include Carlitta Durand, The Beast, Marcus Anderson, Al Strong, Shana Tucker, King Mez, Joshua Gunn, and Yolanda Rabun.

Genres accepted include jazz, blues, R&B, soul, neo-soul, and hip-hop. Selected artists are compensated for their performance based on draw. Lodging for artists travelling from outside of a 200 mile radius may be negotiated.

This is a juried call for talent. Jurors this year are three-time Grammy winner Branford Marsalis, director of Duke Performances Aaron Greenwald, music free-lance journalist for The Independent Weekly Sylvia Pfeiffenberger, and Grammy nominated recording artist Carolyn Malachi.

The Art of Cool Project’s After Hours Concert Series is sponsored by LabourLove Gallery, Flanders Gallery, Virtue Events & Planning, Go Downtown Live Work Play of Raleigh and Durham, and Triangle.com.
